Kevin Stephens
@kevinmstephens
I heard tyler is going to pound a pint glass of vodka.
Kyle Warbis
@UWarbs
Calender marked. Yeeee Tyler
Kevin Stephens
@kevinmstephens
get back to work warbis
I heard warbis is going to rufie himself
Kyle Warbis
@UWarbs
You get back to work. Are you and @aisapatino going to teach code fellows backbone?
Kevin Stephens
@kevinmstephens
we aren't using backbone on our current projects
learning async and lots of _
Kevin Stephens
@kevinmstephens
async.auto, async.which, etc, all stuff that would have been useful in our along the way project
Kyle Warbis
@UWarbs
Does async help with node servers taking large loads?
Follow up, what helps a node server serve millions?
Kyle Warbis
@UWarbs
clusters and load balancers?
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
yeah clusters help, let’s you use multiple cpus on the same machine.
Brook Riggio
@brookr
Thomas Wilburn dropped by CF HQ the other day, and mentioned the JS Workshop meetup that he runs: http://www.meetup.com/seajsws/events/181634952/
Check it out if you need something to do tonight!
(lol @ “0 members went” to an event that hasn’t happened yet…)

.htaccess files are a pain in the ass and despite what the internet says, don't use jQuery notation when setting el in your view.

Thats all.

Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
I am confuse
Nicholas Harberg
@harberg
@KuroFluff .htaccess files are used on apache severs. el was in reference to the backbone property.
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
jQuery notation meaning $('#puppies').append('cuteness')? What would you say is good/bad practice in using backbone's el?
Nicholas Harberg
@harberg
module.exports = Backbone.View.extend({
    el: $('#content'),
`

vs

   el: '#content',
``

second version is preferable

Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
Ah, so you don't need the jQuery wrapper.
Kevin Stephens
@kevinmstephens
.htaccess is why I decided to be a javascript dev and learn node.
I was like, F- .htaccess I'm out.
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
@stephenboles Could you tell us more about this Bellevue Tech Hive thing?
^^ list of stuff that’s breaking in node 0.12
Kyle Warbis
@UWarbs
Best javascript podcast ~20 minutes long?
Zach Bryan
@ZBryan

@kevinmstephens
Did we decide where our happy hour is on Thursday?
Kyle Warbis
@UWarbs
beer, music, fellows, I am in.
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
I don’t think I’ll be able to make it to this happy hour, my girlfriend’s sister is in town from the east coast and the two of them have already made plans.
Zach
@ZachBowman
@kurofluff, from the website, it looks like a faster version of what we did with group projects. Speed 3 - This time it's on a browser.
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
I'm deploying a Jekyll app on Heroku and it's a nightmare. Multiple tutorials say to do different Rake-y/Ruby-y things and none of them work. Ugh, I hate this kind of stuff </rant>
Erik Nilsen
@enilsen16
@KuroFluff need ruby help?
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
Not sure if knowledge of Jekyll is required but I have a config, .gem, and procfile configured how the Jekyll people said, but the article is four years old and Heroku says it's not a valid cedar app jekyll/jekyll-help#135 <-link to longer explanation
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
@KuroFluff you need a Gemfile
i think, b/c Heroku says not valid cedar app if package.json is missing, so assuming similar for ruby
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
but it's running through Rake
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
rake is grunt
rake builds it, but won’t serve it?
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
Ruby's grunt is Rake? okay
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
r - make
yep
config.ru is the rack config. Rack is like the http module in node
pretty sure you need a Gemfile (with a capital g)
not sure what that .gems file is, is that specific to heroku? can’t remember seeing that before
here is my octopress’s blog Gemfile (octopress is based on jekyll)

we should move this to codefellows/Codefellows so the ruby folks can chime in
