Scott Romney Burbidge
@sburbidg
Haha. I never would have guessed.
Martin Genev
@mgenev
@ivanoats also prefers ember afaik
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
Yup
Scott Romney Burbidge
@sburbidg
@ivanoats you think it is okay for the accelorator?
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
Um, what's the question?
Scott Romney Burbidge
@sburbidg
If i feel more comfortable with something like ember will that be fine for the dev accelorator or should a spend most of my time learning angular
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
We are starting from scratch with Backbone and Angular. Ember will be demoed but not focused on
As much as I am a huge fan, angular is more popular right now and for job hunting we are focusing on it
Scott Romney Burbidge
@sburbidg
Okay cool
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
Honestly if you want to get ahead learn testing with Mocha. Although we do start from scratch there.
Was somebody PMing me about OS? Gitter lost the PM before I got your name.
Scott Romney Burbidge
@sburbidg
I'll look at it for sure.
Joe Elsey
@joeelsey
Any thoughts on tweenmax? Worth learning?
@srobertson421 Link bookmarked. Thanks. Gamemaker also can use js. Unity uses js syntax for unityscript. Although they are essentially two different languages.

Should I download the 32 or 64 bit Linux Mint 17 Qiana Cinnamon Edition?
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
You’re probably going to want 64 bit unless your laptop is 5+ years old in which case it could possibly be a 32bit system but probably isn’t. Long story short, 64 bit, if you get errors booting the install disk, try 32 bit.
Aron Garavaglia
@agaravag
My system type is 64 bit system
Aron Garavaglia
@agaravag
any tips on what to do after computer freezes after clicking "install now" button for linux mint?
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
@agaravag any progress?
Joe Elsey
@joeelsey
Question about angular. I've seen three separate syntax's for creating the initial ng-app. The homework example. The egghead.io example from the tutorial links provided in the homework and an example from code school's angular module. Is there a standard?
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
whichever one you prefer
Joe Elsey
@joeelsey
Gotcha. Ty.
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
TMTOWTODI
Joe Elsey
@joeelsey
Ok. I don't know that one.
Google provides once again.
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
=)
The old perl one was TMTOWTSAC
(skin a cat)
not quite sure what perl developers do with all those cat skins
Joe Elsey
@joeelsey
Angular seems to break easy if the ng-apps and ng-controllers aren't correct.
We don't talk about perl developers...
Hank Yates
@hankyates
yeah thats a downside to magical framework
gotta keep things in place
Jostein Straume
@josteinstraume
Anyone remember the awesome website Martin showed us that had template designs for different menu options? Can’t remember the name but you could demo each type of feature.
Eric Chen
@CodeErCn
@jstraume - I believe is the JQuery UI that you are talking about. http://jqueryui.com/

Getting ready to purchase a macbook for the october accelerator. Is the 13' macbook pro not recommended due to the smaller screen?
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
@joeelsey the screen size isn't super important, I work primarily on a 13" macbook air and it's not the screen size that bothers me, it's the power/ram(mostly ram) . With a pro, if the 13" screen size becomes a problem you can always get a monitor.
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
yeah but also if you’re on a budget the 11” base mba is totally fine. esp. if you stash an external monitor upstairs. better to get a mac you can afford than deal with linux on the desktop (/me ducks as @toastynerd blows his top at me)
Mandi Grant
@MJGrant
+1 the mac recommendation, switching to a mac simplified a lot (like a LOT) of installation problems I encountered on my linux laptop and made it easier to find help from a community of people with near-identical machines
Joe Elsey
@joeelsey
Sounds good. I think I may have some options as well with refurbished macs. Didn't know I had the option of bringing a second monitor... That could be sweet. Thanks everyone.
Mandi Grant
@MJGrant
My Mac is a refurb from apple.com, it's a 2012 model and saved me several hundred dollars. I can't tell the difference, it came packaged as if it were new.
John Fahey
@faheydesign
@joeelsey Yeah my macbook is two years old. It works fine for the accelerator. I do recommend getting the maximum of ram. Since you can’t upgrade it later.
Stephanie Lingwood
@stephanielingwood
Okay, I'll touch off the Linux vs. Mac debate. Will I be at a disadvantage if I'm on Linux for the October accelerator? If not, what distribution would you recommend? (Recently got a Dell with a Core i7 and 8gb ram, and the Mac prices are a lot to stomach.)
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
I really like ElementaryOS, it has a nice UI http://elementaryos.org/
although Ubuntu 14 is a bit more up to date
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
whoops wrong room
