@ivanoats Thanks. I'm not familiar with Mac or Linux at this point, but that's what the next few weeks are for. I'll go check out ElementaryOS and Ubuntu 14.
Joaquin Guardado
@macikokoro
In my own experience Mac OS is a lot easier to get familiar with

@stephanielingwood I would recommend Mint or Fedora, Mint is based on the latest version Ubuntu but without the bullshit.
You might also want to look at Manjaro, it's an easy version of Arch which is the main distro I use but take my advice with a big grain of salt. I'm a snob when it comes to linux.

Any parking tips? What's the cheapest option?

Is there a free parking lot within biking distance?

I'm thinking of biking down from Gas works maybe...

So I installed brew and I installed node, but I didn't install node with brew so they aren't linked. Is it worthwhile to uninstall node and then reinstall node with brew?
fyi: Tried linking brew to node and brew said I should either uninstall or overwrite
CTownsdin
@CTownsdin
node install is super easy I think... maybe it's worth it?
Joe Elsey
@joeelsey
I messed it up I think. Brew won't link with node because I installed node through npm first. I think I'm going to have to completely uninstall npm and node. Then reinstall with brew. Hopefully there won't be an issue beyond that.
Joe Elsey
@joeelsey
Just talking out loud here, but maybe someone will run into the same issue. I wasn't able to uninstall node or npm. Brew couldn't link because it couldn't overwrite certain files. The issue was in the folder permissions. I changed the conflicting folders from read only to read&write. Brew was able to link and brew doctor says I'm ready to brew.

@CTownsdin parking is cheaper over by Daniel's Broilerhouse if you don’t mind a little walking.
$12

This website has lots of good JS info.

Anybody have a learning project suggestion they would like to share? Are you doing something between now and the JS Dev accelerator?

Maybe something like TODO List Backbone or Angular ?

Joe Elsey
@joeelsey
I've been going through the code school modules to prep for the October accelerator. I've also been trying to build a javascript battleship game. I've built a grid using canvas through a function, but now I'm trying to turn that function into an object, so I can manipulate it better. Also considering creating a simple invoicing app to mimic what I do manually when I create invoices for freelance work. Something that works with google docs would be really cool.
Canvas is easy to break so its been tricky.

@macikokoro, @faheydesign Thanks for the parking tips! The previous best I found were $15 and up. Thanks

I have a great suggestion for free parking but it is about a mile walk or 15 min. Send me a private message if interested. :)

I think my mongodb install is not correct. Should I just wait until the first day and fix it there, or can we troubleshoot it now?

https://github.com/ivanoats/Full-Stack-JavaScript-Engineering/blob/master/setup/computer_setup.md

start mongo with: launchctl start homebrew.mxcl.mongodb, does not work, it says,

launchctl start error: No such process

brew info mongo says:

mongodb: stable 2.6.5 (bottled), devel 2.7.7, HEAD
https://www.mongodb.org/
/usr/local/Cellar/mongodb/2.6.5 (17 files, 331M)
Poured from bottle
From: https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew/blob/master/Library/Formula/mongodb.rb
==> Dependencies
Build: scons ✘
Optional: boost ✘, openssl ✘
==> Options
--with-boost
Compile using installed boost, not the version shipped with mongodb
--with-openssl
Build with openssl support
--devel
install development version 2.7.7
--HEAD
install HEAD version
==> Caveats
To have launchd start mongodb at login:
ln -sfv /usr/local/opt/mongodb/
.plist ~/Library/LaunchAgents
Then to load mongodb now:
launchctl load ~/Library/LaunchAgents/homebrew.mxcl.mongodb.plist
Or, if you don't want/need launchctl, you can just run:
mongod --config /usr/local/etc/mongod.conf

launchctl load ~/Library/LaunchAgents/homebrew.mxcl.mongodb.plist

says, no such file or directory, nothing to load
