Based on the tutorials I've been looking at, I've gathered that "git add" is how I create a new file to push to git. Is this correct? What am I missing/doing incorrectly?
Patricks-MacBook-Air:repos patricklandin$ git add firstfile.txt
fatal: pathspec 'firstfile.txt' did not match any files

@PatrickLandin steps for git....
git init this initializes a local git repo
git add filename
git commit -m "message you want to add"
create a repo on github
git remote add origin "url to the repo no quotes"
ie..
git remote add origin https://github.com/ZBryan/demo.git
git push -u origin master

I'm still getting that "fatal: pathspec did not match any files" error at the "git add filename" step

Never mind. I've figured this part out. Thanks.
