    @brookr I was attempting to do the week4 feedback and noticed that we skip a week of feedback. (week 3 9/21 and week 4 10/3) Should I provide feedback for week 4 or for week 4 and 5 due Oct 5...
    @brookr Just saw the comment on week 1 feedback. Thanks...
    Brook Riggio
    @brookr
    Yeah, the weeks are funny because they go from mid-week to mud-week.

    (that's the app for managing Personal Growth Plans... if you want to hack on it some, have at it! I've ask Victoria, the maintainer, to create issues with what she knows needs to be done)

    CF is running another git workshop this weekend! https://www.codefellows.org/calendar#oct-git-unix-workshop
    This is the first time we'll run it with official "Learn Unix" curriculum. Wanting to get better at that, or share your knowledge with eager learners?
    Tyler (js DA instructor) and Brad (iOS DA instructor) are leading that workshop this weekend, and are in search of TAs.
    Show up here to CF HQ weekend (10am, both days), and email tyler@codefellows.com (@toastynerd) if interested.

    i'm going to start a discussion with TA contact info. add yours if you wanna share!

    Sorry, folks, I'm not coming in this evening. I've been fighting a cold the past couple of days, and I don't think it would be very nice to bring my sneezy and snotty self into a crowded lab environment. It's been great working with and getting to know all of you, and I look forward to seeing you around... maybe at the Seattle JS Meetup next week?
    For now, time for Nyquil and a nap.

    @AMPotter
    I am also unable to physically be there this evening, but I'll be online the whole time to help as best I can remotely.

    For those who did make it to lab time on Thursday, how was turnout for the final session?
    Also: I just published the outbound assessment survey quiz.
    Sorry for the delays on that. I thought I had earlier, then realized I hadn't, then couldn't get to it for a while.
    But now it's live, and as people start to fill that in, we can offer personal growth plan suggestions.
    @dcorns is working on the PGP app to make that a little easier, so hopefully that will be ready to go early next week.
    Dale Corns
    @dcorns
    @brookr It was by fat the least attended session, however also a higher percentage of the people attending requesting help.
    Brook Riggio
    @brookr
    Ah interesting. A guess at the head count? 10? 20? 30?
    Dale Corns
    @dcorns
    @brookr Somewhere around 15
    @brookr But I spent the whole time from about 3 to 9 helping people, including people waiting there turn on more than one occasion
    Samantha Camus
    @xdothackerx
    I noticed the same thing, @dcorns.
    I wish the students had been so eager to ask questions earlier on.

    For the first few lab sessions I mostly sat around grading, since not many people asked for help.
    Brook Riggio
    @brookr
    Good to hear they are figuring out how to ask. Maybe I should have included Ivan's mini-lecture on "how to ask a good techinical question"...
    that's really good to know, tho! thanks for that feedback.
    Dale Corns
    @dcorns
    On the third week a student had told me that they did not want to bother the TA's too much. I told them the reason their is a 10 - 1 ratio is so the TA's can provide a lot of help and that's what they are there for...but alas it was the final week. Perhaps making something like that clear in the beginning might help also.
    Brook Riggio
    @brookr
    Man, you'd think it obvious...
    It's kind of crazy value for a $500 course, but yeah, I'll definitely call it out more explicitly next time.
    Dale Corns
    @dcorns
    Yes, I agree, but...she said it, so maybe others were thinking it also. But maybe some just think they have it covered until crunch time comes and they're not ready.
    Sam Hamm
    @samhamm
    Everything in this late thread is right on: student shyness early, course value, people freaking out at the end. It cannot be overstated that the TAs are there as student resources. Speaking as a recent student myself (and after years as an educator), it's a tough message to project, that we're there to help, and not simply evaluate. It's hard to go ask for help from the person who is also grading your work, especially without a strict grading rubric.
    Sam Hamm
    @samhamm
    In the mind of the student: "I've been instructed on this, I don't get this, and my main path for assistance is through the person to whom I must admit my difficulties in understanding their message... and who will also be evaluating my progress." Friggin' minefield. That's no criticism at all. It's the reality of the challenge of teaching.
    Sam Hamm
    @samhamm
    Some students enter overconfident and need to grasp the humility of learning. Some are capable but unsure and anxious. The rest are manywheres inbetween. It's not easy to manage. I think we've done a good job of it in this class, and that Code Fellows has at its core a very solid pedagogical sensibility.

    Can't tell you how sad that makes me!

    @dcorns
    I know I am broken up about it.
    Brook Riggio
    @brookr
    Well, I messed up. The outbound assessment survey didn't get published. Thanks Canvas!
    It should have gone out days ago.
    But don't publish it now, Dale has it built into the PGP app. Good work Dale!
    We are putting a little final polish on the app, before we put it in front of students.
    Brook Riggio
    @brookr
    Ok, the assignment, and the app, are finally live: https://canvas.instructure.com/courses/878545/assignments/3100753
