So, to give a little information about myself: I am 28 years old, live in germany and I love creating (design, photoshop-artworks, game making, music). I want to add programming to the tools I use for creating. Ethics are of a high value for me (I live vegan and straight-edge, things like honor, freedom, honesty, friendship, etc. are very important to me) and I would like help people to create better lifes for themselfes. To break out of the boundries that society tells you to stay in. Thats why I want to learn development, so I can create software to empower people. At the moment I am working as Wordpress-Integrator at a design agency. I have basic knowledge of html5, css3 and frameworks like foundation.

@marvin-klempert awesome !
@marvin-klempert do you know how github works ?

Feb 24 2016 19:06
@mmacedoeu I know what it does, what it´s good for and such. But if I am able to use it in production right now? No. Maybe with a GUI-client, but I am still struggling with the command line tool. Just two days ago, I had a real fight trying to set up a Wordpress environment with Vagrant. One or two things did work with the command line tool but I wasn´t able to create the complete environment and so the whole thing didn´t work.

@marvin-klempert you are on the right foot, this is the fight for experience, learn and empower yourself, just keep going, never surrender :smile_cat:
github is the foundation, it is a must have

@mmacedoeu And I am still struggling with motivation :( I know that programming is a great thing, but I can´t get myself up to work on coding after work. I am someone who needs intensive motivation nonstop. Do you maybe know how to stay motivated when it comes to coding? Focusing in general is harder for me, because of the mental disease called depression.

@marvin-klempert stream doing code, then you will never stop because you have ppl wanting to see you
@marvin-klempert and also think about the projects you want to make, and work your way up to finishing them

@marvin-klempert where did you learn how to use command line? :smile:

@scottmike0
Feb 24 2016 19:16
@marvin-klempert also side note, being vegan means you dont gain the same energy as someone who is not vegan, because when you eat meat, you gain protein and the energy within meat, thus because you are vegan, i highly suggest drinking energy drinks or having coffee or something with caffeine. And when you say you are depressed, you are not depressed, its just you do not have energy from the foods you eat. :P

Feb 24 2016 19:20
@scottmike0 You think there would be an audience willing to watch me code? Oh... it would be nice not to argue about my eating habits. Because I take care about the nutrients that I get. Iron, Protein (yep, I get enough through nuts, chickpeas, beans, hemp, etc.), B12, D3, etc. So you can trust me, when I talk about depression. I drink energy every morning (with added B12), take 1 A-Z vitamin pill just to be sure and right now doing a 10-day high-B12 circle. And at noon, I drink a coffee.

Feb 24 2016 19:26
c9 is like codepen for groups!
mmacedo
@mmacedoeu
Feb 24 2016 19:26
@marvin-klempert yes, you can always "export" to a git based repository
@marvin-klempert not strictly speaking, but enough for 80% of the tasks, the free plan is ok for me.
tommy
@tommygebru
Feb 24 2016 19:27

Feb 24 2016 19:28
@mmacedoeu 80%? So you can´t finish a project to completion with free plan? And it looks complex to me
@scottmike0 Ok, sooorrry :D
scottmike0
@scottmike0
Feb 24 2016 19:29
@marvin-klempert you can finish projects in c9.io
mmacedo
@mmacedoeu
Feb 24 2016 19:29
@marvin-klempert yes you can, but depends on your project at hand
scottmike0
@scottmike0
Feb 24 2016 19:30
@mmacedoeu not necessarily, it depends how well knowledge you have and the time limit you have to complete it
Marvin Klempert
@marvin-klempert
Feb 24 2016 19:31
When coding a website in collaboration, that depends on stuff running on the server (node, etc.), how can you integrate git in the workflow? Using the staging server as the rep? You´d need to see the app/website running to test things.
scottmike0
@scottmike0
Feb 24 2016 19:32
you automatically have a server in cloud 9
you can ssh to it
mmacedo
@mmacedoeu
Feb 24 2016 19:32
@marvin-klempert c9 is nodejs compatible
Marvin Klempert
@marvin-klempert
Feb 24 2016 19:33

Feb 24 2016 19:33
@mmacedoeu Oh, I was talking about general development workflow with git in teams.
mmacedo
@mmacedoeu
Feb 24 2016 19:34
@marvin-klempert it is git friendly
Marvin Klempert
@marvin-klempert
Feb 24 2016 19:34
@mmacedoeu I am still confused when it comes to that.
@mmacedoeu Yeah, but not every team in every company works in c9, right? I just try to understand how that kind of development workflow works in general
mmacedo
@mmacedoeu
Feb 24 2016 19:34
you can go to the web site, do work and commit
scottmike0
@scottmike0
Feb 24 2016 19:35
@marvin-klempert it comes with a default ssh, the paid plan allows you to have multiple forms of connection
mmacedo
@mmacedoeu
Feb 24 2016 19:35
@marvin-klempert we can do it right now together if you want
Marvin Klempert
@marvin-klempert
