Hi, I'm the co-creator of Firetext
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:32
Hey!
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:33
(previously known as HRdev)
Unfortinately, I have been inactive on this project for some while
but I still believe that this project is influential
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:35
I see
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:36
@twiss I would like to thank you for hosting it
It has surely been quite helpful
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:36
No problem
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:38
However, I believe that Airborn OSes vision doesn't fully align with Ft's vision
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:38
Alright. What is Firetext's vision?
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:38
For instance, we wanted to integrate cloud services but not offer one
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:39
Hmhm
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:39
Firetext should not be directly associated with anything for-profit
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:40
Why not?
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:41
Because we believe in providing the application and services freely
So that everyone can use it without the any compromise
That's why we wanted to integrate cloud not provide
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:44
Well, Firetext is still open source, regardless of which organization it falls under. The Firefox OS version doesn't go away. And the Airborn OS client is open source, and Airborn OS has a free plan
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:45
I do understand that.
Under Open Source principles, you are allowed to use OS code for for-profit endevours
but that is given that you FORK the original repo
Now, Ft was owned by Codexa (the organisation that created it) and thus the original repo was Codexa/firetext
it is still owned by Codexa
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:50
I don't claim ownership of the copyrights of the Firetext code
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:51
This transfer of firetext from Codexa to Airborn was not fully authorised as not all members were notified nor agreed
That's good
and that's why I asking you to please transfer the original repo back to Codexa/firetext and then FORK it from there on GitHub
As that is how Open Source is supposed to work
Nothing will change other than the fact that the original repo will be hosted by the original owner of the project
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:54
Well, I have a fork, and still do: https://github.com/twiss/firetext
I can transfer the repo back, but I don't have the impression that all of you want that
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:55
yeah but it's not not forked from Codexa/firetext
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:55
Well, it was, but now that's airbornos/firetext
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:55
I'm the president of Codexa and have made significant contributions in FT
It can STILL be airbornos/firetext but it HAS TO BE A FORK
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:56
Yes, of course, and it would have been better if this had been discussed with everyone beforehand, but now we should do that now instead
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:56
from Codexa/firetext
Yes, I wasn't notified of this
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:57
Do you have any plans with Firetext outside Firefox OS? (Not that you have to, just asking)
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 18:58
Perhaps
I don't have anything against Airborn or for the fact that it is charging for its services
but it has to be a FORK
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 18:59
Hmm. The thing is, Joshua is, as I understand it, actually happy with the move. Firefox OS is not a growing platform
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:00
In order to acknowledge the fact that Ft was created by Codexa
That's fine. And in fact I'm also happy that it may have a future
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:01
If you want it clearer that Firetext was created by Codexa, and something of a list of contributors, we could do that now too
Hmhm
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:01
No, just transfer it and then fork it
and continue with whatever you want to do with it
as this is how OS works
Just follow the OS principles
And that's the only thing that bothers me
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:03
Well, it's not entirely unusual to move OS projects to organizations for whatever reason, e.g. that is what Apache is
Joshua Smith
@joshua-s
Jan 08 2016 19:03
I'm fine with the consensus
My apologies for causing this dilemna...
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:05
Well, it's my fault too, it should have been discussed more
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:05
This is the best way for Codexa to achieve attribution
for its work
Additionally mentioning something along the lines of "This is building on the great work of Codexa" would be very helpful
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:08
Alright. For more practial things, the occasion for the move was the hosting of a Firetext server. Which we did behind airbornos.com/firetext, which is CDN-replicated globally
Do you feel that codexa is currently better suited at sponsoring firetext than airborn?
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:09
Yeah we can fix revert that in the original repo
Yes
*revert
We're a non-profit

Joshua said he doesn't have access to the bugs3 server
More was changed on the server side than just the location of the server
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:12
Yeah, we'll fix that
plenty of free hosting available
that suffices considering our traffic
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:14
Alright. I hope you do realize the current version of Firetext goes through airbornos.com. I won't block that, but that was on condition of the move to airbornos
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:16
ok
Joshua Smith
@joshua-s
Jan 08 2016 19:17
If it is transferred back, a new version will be pushed at the same time
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:17
Alright
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:17
just fork it from Codexa/firetext
The FORKING part is the whole point of this
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:19
No need to tell me what to do other than what you want. Please delete or move the placeholder codexa/firetext, so I can transfer it
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:20
ok
done
Joshua Smith
@joshua-s
Jan 08 2016 19:21
Uhm, HR. The placeholder was supporting the <0.5 app
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:22
Yes, the real firetext repo will do that now
I can't transfer without admin rights. Either you need to give me that or Joshua can transfer the repo
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:24
No need for that
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:27
Alright. Well, I'd double check that the <0.5 url works, and please release a new version as soon as possible.
Joshua Smith
@joshua-s
Jan 08 2016 19:28
@HR do you have a server set up?
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:29
I can transfer you the heroku server if you want
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:30
yes
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:30
What is your heroku email address?
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:32
@joshua-s it is firetext.herokuapp.com
Daniel Huigens
@twiss
Jan 08 2016 19:35
Alright, I've sent a transfer request for firetext-server.herokuapp.com
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 19:38
accepted
Joshua Smith
@joshua-s
Jan 08 2016 19:38
Confirm that it works
Habib Rehman
@HR
Jan 08 2016 20:01
OK.
@/all in the next release the of Firetext, the oauth server will change from https://firetext-server.herokuapp.com/ to https://firetext.herokuapp.com/
