    MusicBeam looks like an awesome project! I downloaded it and when I run it I get "MusicBeam" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash.
    so I pulled down the code and tried to compile it
    I'm getting this:

    ∫ make
    mkdir -p builds/
    mkdir -p MusicBeam/application.macosx/MusicBeam.app/Contents/Resources/
    mkdir -p MusicBeam/application.windows32/
    echo > builds/LATEST

    Mac OS X

    cp MusicBeam/sketch.icns MusicBeam/application.macosx/MusicBeam.app/Contents/Resources/sketch.icns
    defaults write MusicBeam/application.macosx/MusicBeam.app/Contents/Info.plist LSUIPresentationMode -int 4
    (cd MusicBeam/application.macosx/ && zip -rq ../../builds/MusicBeam-v-macosx.zip *)
    zip -q builds/MusicBeam-v-macosx.zip LICENSE README.md

    Win32

    (cd MusicBeam/application.windows32/ && zip -rq ../../builds/MusicBeam-v-windows32.zip *)

    zip error: Nothing to do! (try: zip -rq ../../builds/MusicBeam-v-windows32.zip . -i )
    make: **
    [release] Error 12

    any tips?

    I can't follow you. What are you trying to do. If your just trying to make it run you just need to allow all software sources in your Mac Gatekeeper settings. If you want to contribute, you should have a look into Processing.

    @jbasdf
    Hi Joe, I'm just trying to run the app
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    The k, just change your Gatekeeper settings
    Justin Ball
    @jbasdf
    I'm open to contributing
    sounds like a fun project
    so if I want to do that I'm guessing I need to be able to build it?
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    Yes but that's rather simple. Just download Processing, a Java sublangauge compiler. Processing.org
    Justin Ball
    @jbasdf
    ok, so after downloading and install Processing I should be able to just run make?
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    the make command is just to create a release not to compile the source code. You’ll just need to open the MusicBeam.pde in the Processing IDE

    Hi Joe, I was having the same problem and turned off my gatekeeper to allow all software sources to be opened. Now it lets me click the icon and it shows the icon launch as if it is going to open, but then nothing happens. Do you know how to fix this? Really wanna try out your software!
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    @talhod1 what Version of OSX are you running?
    talhod1
    @talhod1
    Hey, i'm the same guy who emailed you btw. Yosemite 10.10.5. and version 8 update 73 build 1.8.0_73-b02 of java. The icon moves as if it's starting up but the program never opens. any ideas? Thanks for taking the time to reply.

    @codingjoe
    Do you have a second screen attached? You might want to run it from source to give a error output it can dig into.

    @codeJo5h
    Hello good evening! I have downloaded the 64/32 bit but when I launch the app it is only white. I have two screens one projector. Also tested on another computer as well but same results. I think I might be missing something.
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    Hi @codeJo5h can you try to hook in a line in cable to your PC before launching? It doesn't need to have anything attached to the other end.
    Bill Lou
    @billhmlou
    Hey, thanks for the awesome app. I can't seem to choose displays on mac OS X though. No matter which way I extend my displays my mac will always be the stage and my projector shows the controls, or, my mac both displays controls and the stage. Thanks in advance.
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    Yeah, that sucks. They changed how Processing handles the displays. You can use mission control to fix it, but still. I’d really like to see this fixed.
    Bill Lou
    @billhmlou
    @codingjoe Unfortunately the problem with that is the stage will not resize. It will always appear on my smaller screen, and when I move it with mission control, it will not resize to the larger screen. I'm getting around it by launching the app while my mac's monitor is off and the projector is the only display. Again, thanks for your work!

    @codingjoe
    hm… ok, great workaround, sorry that there isn’t much more that I can do for you right now.

    @kroeder
    Hey, shouldn't we raise an issue per not finished effect feature? codingjoe/MusicBeam#15 - I can do this if you want. Generally this would make the issues smaller and we can work on it step by step + we have everything on track
    Kai Röder
    @kroeder
    and in codingjoe/MusicBeam#19 what exactly do you want by stack trace? You mean the debug log of "afterworkpro" or the related issue number #19 ?
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    @kroeder that’s a good idea, you can split #15
    regarding #19 I’d like to see the error that’s been raised when you don’t have the line-in connected, We should catch the exception and present the user with this information
    I just can’t reproduce it, there for I don’t know which exception to catch
    Kai Röder
    @kroeder
    I can't reproduce it myself.. Just had it one time on an older notebook - after the first time plugging in a cable it disapeared, even after unplugging it
    Kai Röder
    @kroeder
    @codingjoe if I miss something in the new issues, let me know :) I'll edit the post then: e.g. #23

    Hey!
    Anyone arround?
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    @thewillwilson yes, how can I help you?
    silverches
    @silverches
    Hey, i tried running Musicbeam on windows 10 64 bit. The stage program opens but nothing happens, it stays opaque when you click on it.
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    @silverches have you tried the 32bit version?
    silverches
    @silverches
    Yep, then the musicbeam program stays grey
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    That is a Java bug. there is nothing I can do against that. You can downgrade to java 1.8.65
    that is before the bug was introduced
    silverches
    @silverches
    Allright thanks!
    Herman
    @oxylis_twitter
    Is that the case with Max OS X? Should I downgrade as well?
    Actually, is there a page on your website that lists all of the previous versions? Can't seem to find it.
    Johannes Maron
    @codingjoe
    What’s your problem?
    Mac OS X should work fine. cc @oxylis_twitter

    Hi, I have MusicBeam on my archlinux and a few months ago everything was fine but when I started it today it just shows a grey window and the log shows an exception (same exception as below but no Errors before that).
    I tried downgrading Java to 1.8.65 (jre8-openjdk-8.u65-1 and same jre and jre-headless) but afterwards I get the same behaviour and the following log output when starting the program:

    ==== JavaSound Minim Error ====
    ==== Unable to return a TargetDataLine: unsupported format - PCM_SIGNED 44100.0 Hz, 16 bit, stereo, 4 bytes/frame, little-endian

    === Minim Error ===
    === Minim.getLineIn: attempt failed, could not secure an AudioInput.
