With the new recent updates is collective access compatible with apache/2.4.6 I know the documentation only talks about 1.3, 2.0 or 2.2

2.4.6 should be fine

It's always been. Any web server that runs PHP should work!
The main thing you have to look for then you're migrating is the Require all granted option in your vhost configuration. That threw me off when I first moved to 2.4

I'll have to keep that in mind we are upgraded as much as the server as possible. I'm actually a student assistant that was hired on to help with the process, so I'm learning about the system now.

good luck! note that the latest CA version requires PHP 5.4 or higher
(pretty sure we haven't updated the wiki to reflect that :-))

yes I saw that we still have providence 1.5 no one has updated that system in awhile and it was ok while the system was private to the university, but we are trying to make it live. Is there any suggestions you have to updating providence to the new 1.6, since I wasn't the one to set up providence.

you can follow these steps, for the most part: http://docs.collectiveaccess.org/wiki/Upgrading_Providence
they're for v1.5 but mostly still valid
most importantly, back everything up before you start!

will do I believe I'm going to create a vm and apply the changes on it before changing anything on the running server.

thanks for the help I don't know if this is a ca issue or apache but has anyone ever had issues doing a redirect from http to https. An issue they just confronted me about.

if you want to use https exclusively, you should set the site_protocol setting in global.conf to https
then CA will build all internal links etc. using https://

Yeap I'll be looking into the apache stuff after checking the site_protocol. Thanks for the help you might have just saved me a days worth of searching
