Hi again. Our locale is not set up en_US. But when opening fields that are of type date range, the date format is in "YYYY-MM-DD". Can this be change without having to use locale? I would've thought these fields would default to en_US if not set? thanks

That format is hardcoded in the datepicker
It can be made configurable though; we just haven't done it yet.
File a JIRA for it (http://clangers.collectiveaccess.org) and I'll make the change this week

hello again. how do I manually sort lists? I there is a list item property called "sort order". I put 1 on the one I want to be on top. 2 on the second and so on. But nothing seems to happen. I looked at metadata element properties and nothing there stands out. In the UI property, there is a "sort using" property but the dropdown list is empty. any ideas? thanks
I forgot, Is it possible to customize the "quick add" screen? the UI doesn't seem to be available. thanks

Also... Can someone please link me to the available fields that I can use in a display template? e.g. ^ca_objects.my-field-here. thanks again!

Regarding lists, you must go into the list record (click on the list name in the Lists & Vocabularies editor) and select the sort method in the "Default sort order" setting

The one you want is "by rank"
The QuickAdd window simply uses the first screen of the standard user interface for the type of record being quick-added. You can modify the user interface (in Manage > Administrate > User interfaces) and it will be reflected in QuickAdd
Regarding available fields, they're whatever fields are configured in your system.
The codes are a combination of table names and codes. For metadata elements, the codes are the element codes. For ex. if you have an element with code "description" bound to object records, the code is ^ca_objects.description
You have probably already seen this but in case you haven't have a look at http://docs.collectiveaccess.org/wiki/Display_Templates
And on another note... I see the JIRA. Thanks. Will work on it this week, perhaps even today.
