@neophiliac you also need a valid entityType in your refinery parameter. This must match one of the idnos from the entity_types list. Many of the default installation profiles have the human readable name 'person' but the idno of ind, so that might be your problem?
(I'm inferring that from the error message 2017-10-04 11:17:35 - ERROR --> Could not insert entity : Type must be specified)

Right, a type is specified, but it must not be valid. Where can I find the list of valid entityTypes? Where do I register my vote for a report or page or something that shows elements and types that can be used for import mappings?

The valid entity types are in the Entity Types list under Manage > Lists and Vocabularies.

@neophiliac the issue with 95% of the element codes and types is that they are different in every setup because they're 100% customizable! To find your types you can go to Manage > Lists and Vocabularies > Entity types. There you will see the idno to be used in the entityType parameter.
@MOIH_ma_twitter I can confirm merge works for me. Just tried it without issue, but I'm running 1.7.6 (Schema revision 147) -- the latest from Github/develop.
Do you want to try updating? Or you could also upload your mappings here to see if the issue is there?

@MOIH_ma_twitter I see your post over on the forum. I'll continue this there.

Thank you Julia. Yes, the mapping and sample data are in the forum post. Another issue I have is that I am only able to map to XLSX files. I haven't been able to discover the syntax for CSV or the others (or they are not working). Is the exact file type syntax listed somewhere? If 1.7.6 is stable for new installations I would be happy to upgrade. This import problem also occurs on my other test install on a hosted server. I will watch for yor forum comments. Thanks!

@MOIH_ma_twitter Just tried it in a 1.7.5 environment and it's working there too.

I have seen that page. The paragraph "Supported input formats" list different file types, but it the exact syntax of each is not clear, with all the included upper and lower case characters. Is a csv import CSV, CSVD, or CSVDelimited?
