@collectiveaccess , even with the the development branch of providence, I am still fighting to get elasticsearch up and running
Do you know if I should be using a particular version? Are the steps I listed correct?

It may be your Elastic install is broken

@sterlingjenson Also make sure you have configured your Elastic connection settings properly in search.conf

The defaults are usually fine
but if it can't parse host it would suggest a mangeled config file

I think I know what the problem is. I probably have to rework the config file because I am playing around with one of several experimental databases. I will probably have to change the application name in setup.php and then in search.conf
