    The installer should create them on installation.
    Oops, I'm repeating everyone else :-)
    The odd thing is that the installer should refuse to install if it can't write to the media directory. Is the media directory mounted in some semi-odd way?
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    Such as?
    CollectiveAccess
    @collectiveaccess
    NFS?
    Is it just a plain old directory? If so, what are the permissions?
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    not that I am aware of I am using Ubuntu server
    CollectiveAccess
    @collectiveaccess
    Which version?
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    permissions are 777 vers 14.04.1
    CollectiveAccess
    @collectiveaccess
    ok, then that's just odd. When you install those media subdirectories (images, workspace, tilepics, etc.) are consistently never created?
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    no - maybe I should try setting the permission on the media directory immediately after I unzip 1.7
    CollectiveAccess
    @collectiveaccess
    As long as you do it before you install it should work
    you're running develop code? Or the 1.6.1 release?
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    Ok I will give it a try. I did another unzip and set the media directory permission to root before logging in from browser. Same result no subdirectories in media.
    yes using develop code
    Stefan
    @stefankeidel
    You are running the installer after you unzip, right? Or are you just plugging in an existing database? The installer can't create anything if you don't run it, obviously
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    That's probably where I have gone wrong - will dump everything again and start from scratch.
    CollectiveAccess
    @collectiveaccess
    ah...
    good call Stefan. Didn't think of that one :-)
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    Hi all, Don't want to waste too much more of your time but can I use a saved profile from my 1.6.1 install in a 1.7 new install if so where do I put the file ? .I have tried putting it profiles/xml as collectiveaccess.xml but cannot access it from the install menu.
    Stefan
    @stefankeidel
    That's the right location ... the name of the profile in the dropdown might be different though. It's taken from the <profileName/> element in the XML file
    To be clear, you're talking about <ca_root>/install/profiles/xml/, yes?
    Oh, and to answer the question: Yes, you should be able to use a profile export. Might have to tweak a few lines because we got rid of a couple of bundle but it should mostly work
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    Thank you I will try it.
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    Tried it and got this error - There were errors parsing the profile(s): Profile validation failed. Your profile doesn't conform to the required XML schema.
    Stefan
    @stefankeidel
    Well there probably is a very small (and fixable) schema error in the exported profile. Try running it through a XML validator like xmllint yourself to find out where it is
    Usually it's idnos/codes that are being cut off by the profile exporter causing violations of some of the uniqueness contraints we impose on profiles (e.g. a placement code has to be unique within a screen)
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    xmllint did the trick after running this on my xml file and then copying into the xml folder my file appeared in the drop down list and installation completed with only one error namely invalid type for ui code bundle_mapping_editor_ui
    Stefan
    @stefankeidel
    That's an editor for the very old and never finished importer. You can just delete that entire <userInterface> block
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    Ok 1.7 up and running with all correct media directories. My mistake from the beginning with the install not running. Thank you all for your time and patience. Eric
    Stefan
    @stefankeidel
    @eriwm Just to be clear: There is no v1.7 yet. You grabbed a random snapshot of our development code, which changes multiple times a day!
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    Understood, just wanted to get hold of the restrict bundle display by type so as to avoid having to create 30 separate screens for my model. I will update providence-develop once you release the next version.
    Stefan
    @stefankeidel
    Ah, yes. That makes sense. Let us know if you happen to find anything odd.

    @keff thanks a lot (re: summary displays)

    if I delete a metadata element (e.g. a text element) or a sub-element (e.g. list/date/etc) within a container, does this delete the table field too? I created an a container with a text sub-element but I don't know where it is in the DB. thanks
    Stefan
    @stefankeidel
    They're just rows in ca_metadata_elements, referenced by ca_attributes and ca_attribute_values. If you delete an element, all values are deleted too.

    About a month ago, I mentioned the possibility of putting together a guide on how to create containers via the UI. I finally found sometime to go over and review my original directions to get them to a point where I feel like I can share them. Where should I email the documentation and images?
    Stefan

    Sent. Hopefully, someone will find it helpful.

    Back again, providence-develop, as per my earlier post I am now able to upload mapping templates but when I click on the Import Icon I get the following error message - [1605] File type is not supported (File->divineFile() [/var/www/providence-develop/app/lib/core/BaseModel.php:5675] [/var/www/providence-develop/app/lib/core/BaseModel.php:2457] [/var/www/providence-develop/app/lib/core/BaseModelWithAttributes.php:470] [/var/www/providence-develop/app/lib/ca/BundlableLabelableBaseModelWithAttributes.php:244] [/var/www/providence-develop/app/models/ca_data_importers.php:1013] [/var/www/providence-develop/app/controllers/batch/MetadataImportController.php:121] [/var/www/providence-develop/app/lib/core/Controller/RequestDispatcher.php:273] [/var/www/providence-develop/app/lib/core/Controller/AppController.php:112] [/var/www/providence-develop/index.php:114] Templates are the same I used in 1.6 i.e xlxs and the spreadsheet is file to import is on .ods format. The error message appears before I have chosen the file to upload. The mapping templates appear in media/collectiveaccess/workspace. Any advice would be appreciated.
    CollectiveAccess
    @collectiveaccess
    Which import icon?
    mrjayviper
    @mrjayviper
    @stefankeidel thank you for the explanation
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    When you go to Import Data the screen opens with a list of Mapping templates. On the right hand side of the mapping templates list you have the delete sign and the Icon (the three legged one don't know what you call it) you click on to open the page where you select the file type and file name that you want to upload.
    ericwm
    @eriwm
    I have just checked that this only happens the first time you drag an importer onto the screen and click the icon then the message pops up. If you click the icon a second time there is no message and the next screen appears however choosing the file to upload and the file type and then execute does not import anything. I hope I have explained this clearly.

    Ok I'll try to reproduce this. I haven't seen this happen before.

    help please when using display templates.

    there is an intrinsic (cannot find it in the meta element list) field called Object related entities. I want to use it on a display template/format but I do not know what to use (example: ^ca_objects.related_entities) since it's intrinsic. can someone please help? thanks

    ps. seems ^ca_objects.my-field-here has not direct relationship to actual database table fields? I asked since I --successfully-- used ^ca_objects.previous_numbers in a display template/format and I looked into the MySQL table called ca_objects and no previous_number field exists. thanks again

    @mrjayviper

    more help please. thanks! :)

    1st image (http://i.imgur.com/c4Mv4W7.jpg) shows the an object's info via the acquisition section. As can be seen, the acquisition method is selected as "purchase".
    2nd image (http://i.imgur.com/R7IsZpY.jpg) shows the summary of the object using a custom display. But the problem is that acquisition method is empty.

    any ideas what could be wrong? I looked at the custom display and there's no display formatting property to acquisition method possibly because it's a list. the only thing I can change is the label. thanks very much again

    @mrjayviper
    another question please! There is a dimensions container which I believe comes part of the default install. Anyway, I have an object that has multiple dimensions possibly because it is made up of many pieces.
    this is dimension data as seen: http://i.imgur.com/2inHqGs.jpg
