Daniel Agar
@dagar
we could do code reviews if you want to just keep everyone in the loop
alex
@alexhudici
Ya it wouldn't be a bad idea to go about it that way.
Iouri Goussev
@igouss
I've pushed some code to my repo to fix some issued
See my latest commit
But I can't get GPS location in emulator. Ideas?
Daniel Agar
@dagar
you can fake it in the emulator
looking
Daniel Agar
@dagar
@igouss are you going to work off the main repo?
it's quite different than your fork
it won't merge
Iouri Goussev
@igouss
just replace src folder
Daniel Agar
@dagar
The auto deploy to google play won't work if you change the package name
alex
@alexhudici
Just so I understand, is the server side stuff still in the backend folder?
Daniel Agar
@dagar
yes
feel free to overwrite whatever you want at this point
if we can get something mostly working it will be easier to start making small incremental improvements
alex
@alexhudici
right ok
were you using intellij?
i pulled it and installed android studio, and now I have a million diffs : modified: .idea/.name modified: .idea/compiler.xml deleted: .idea/dictionaries/Iouri.xml deleted: .idea/encodings.xml modified: .idea/gradle.xml deleted: .idea/inspectionProfiles/Project_Default.xml deleted: .idea/inspectionProfiles/profiles_settings.xm modified: .idea/misc.xml modified: .idea/modules.xml deleted: .idea/scopes/scope_settings.xml modified: .idea/vcs.xml modified: LunchRanker.iml
Iouri Goussev
@igouss
New android studio is based on intellij
alex
@alexhudici
I think it changed a bunch of files. gradle.xml got updated with my directory structure and my version of gradle, etc.
ya thats why I asked
Iouri Goussev
@igouss
I'm not sure if agar merged my last commit. There was bunch of new code
alex
@alexhudici
I think he did
was it this pull request? dagar/LunchRanker@c7213da
ugh this thing stupid, it says it can't find LunchRanker\app\build.gradle even though it's there. It keeps failing to sync the project.
I'm getting triggered to re-live my eclipse project setup trauma.
alex
@alexhudici
want to try running this locally, not sure how to do everything the readme mentions, like launch the back end through android studio.
Also does the back end work?
btw did you use anything as a reference that I can read up on to get familiar with what the code is trying to do?
Daniel Agar
@dagar
the backend is just a simple google cloud end point example https://cloud.google.com/appengine/docs/java/endpoints/
alex
@alexhudici
Ah OK so I'll check that out. I was looking through the front end code and trying to figure out what rest calls it's making.
Daniel Agar
@dagar
feel free to get rid of anything you want
it would be cool to have anything that even partially works in the play store that we could just slowly pick away at improving
alex
@alexhudici
I haven't tried running anything yet but im guessing the app itself doesn't display anything that needs to cone from the server. For example i see there's stuff for a login screen but that doesn't actually log you into anything right? There's no auth on the server side.
Daniel Agar
@dagar
Iouri had some of it working tied into his heroku account
but no one else had access and he ignored the PR so it wasn't merged
alex
@alexhudici
Ah ok
I want to try doing some of the back end stuff with the jaxrs library
Just have to figure out what the front end is expecting
Daniel Agar
@dagar
whatever you use just make sure anyone that wants to be involved can deploy to it
if it's google cloud engine we can give access to everyone through google accounts
ideally it should be push to github -> deploy backend + new Android app
but we're not there
alex
@alexhudici
OK cool I'll have to learn about making the server run with app engine. Still runs war files right? Or what does gradle compile?
I've only made Java apps that run on bluemix which uses liberty
Daniel Agar
@dagar
Might be nice to gain some exposure outside the IBM ecosystem :wink:
alex
@alexhudici
Agreed
