Have you seen this? Not a typo 😏 https://darklang.com/

@bpilot
@mindplay-dk I'm a full-stack developer because the company doesn't want to pay for more than one "engineer."
Rasmus Schultz
@mindplay-dk
@bpilot oh, man. 😶

Finally after 7 years, I am getting out of the business of css though.
Still have to be DBA on the postgres database, which is getting harder and harder as we grow. :-\
Jacob Bang
@julemand101
Well, you are telling yourself that lie but in reality you are properly still working with CSS in the next five years :P
Rasmus Schultz
@mindplay-dk
At least it's not MySQL? 😉
Or at the very least it's not T-SQL? 😱
Jacob Bang
@julemand101
Or MS Access
xD
bpilot
@bpilot
@mindplay-dk Well, I picked all the technologies when I set out to write this massive system 7 years ago and fortunately I had experience with Postgres.
Rasmus Schultz
@mindplay-dk
tbh I liked Access - it was the SQLite of the day 😉
bpilot
@bpilot
BTW, I didn't make all good choices, so it has taken time to get it right.
Never tried Access. I like SQLite.
Rasmus Schultz
@mindplay-dk
Ha, we never make all good choices - but as long as we make better choices every time... 😊
To me that's why this job never gets old 🙂
Hey, nice chatting with you folks, but I have to eat food, I guess. cheers!

@bpilot
When I started in NYC, I had just gotten to work after a serious accident that wiped out my knowledge of C++ & thought JavaScript was a nice language. :-D That certainly changed as I learned what refactoring a large app without type checking was like.

Also need to leave... :)

In our monthly Flutter GDE meetup this morning, I asked why we couldn’t have a dart upgrade to make that process as seamless as flutter upgrade. The googler pinged the dart team. Yeay.
I’m really tired of downloading the two links, unpacking them, and moving them into my installation location.
Jacob Bang
@julemand101
cough Linux package manager cough :P
Randal L. Schwartz
@RandalSchwartz
if that was for me… not relevant.
I’d say the majority of people using Flutter are not on Linux.
But the googler said “the resources to do dart upgrade will be competing with everything else in the pipeline, whereas flutter upgrade was a much more recent change, and much more essential"
He has a point, but I still want simple updates.
Renato Athaydes
@renatoathaydes
For what's worth, Dart upgrade on linux (debian at least, via apt) and on mac (via brew) is a one command thing, so I supposed you're saying there's a problem on Windows...
Randal L. Schwartz
@RandalSchwartz
I refuse to build the dart sdk from source via brew
just seems like a waste of my CPU, and prone to possible errors
so it’s not a one-command thing for me
I’m also wondering how divergent the sdk inside flutter is from the full install now.
they’re probably much closer.
I guess I could write a small Perl script to do the download, unpack it, and move it into place.
Heck, maybe just a shell script with a couple of curls.
Renato Athaydes
@renatoathaydes
@natebosch wow there's debouncing and throttling on https://pub.dev/packages/stream_transform! Those were the only things I ever wanted from Dart streams that Dart didn't already provide :) great to know I don't need to import all of RxDart just for those.

@renatoathaydes

Extension methods on Stream adding common transform operators.

I guess that it will be actual extension methods from the next Dart release?!

Nate Bosch
@natebosch
yes, the latest version of the package already has the extensions, if you are on a new enough Dart SDK you can use them that way. The next release of stream_transform will be extensions only
Renato Athaydes
@renatoathaydes

Rob Halff
@rhalff
I have an idea, let's "transpile" typescript to dart and benefit from typescript's extra features... hides
the only concern it's a not so trivial project.
Rob Halff
@rhalff
So how does this work?
class A {}

void main() {
  print('This is $A');
  print('This is ${A.toString()}');
}
Rob Halff
@rhalff
I guess final className = '$A'; will do.
Simon Binder
@simolus3
This is actually specified (16.3): "A simple or qualified identifier denoting a class, a mixin or a type alias that is not qualified by a deferred prefix, is a potentially constant and constant expression. The constant expression always evaluates to a Type object." So final $class = A; resolves to a Type and final className = $class.toString() just calls Type.toString(), which is what the interpolation is doing as well.
Rob Halff
@rhalff
Ok, so it's like this:
class A {}

void main() {
  // Correct
  final $className = A;
  print($className.toString());

  // Will fail, A doesn't have a toString() method.
  print(A.toString());
}
