@anak1n91
darthlukan I actually planned to incorporate Flask into it
cause I think it'd be way nicer that way
and also then no need for a webserver
I wish I still had the versions I updated
I was working on a flask one
but then you know
Brian Tomlinson
@darthlukan
@anak1n91 No worries, we can easily add flask and just generate some routes. The biggest thing will be to use proper templates
in general, you don't want your programs to be calling things from the CLI as then you have to validate that the platform has those utilities and you end up negating the benefits of the programming language
So we're gutting all of that and will change to just generating code based on templates and only checking the platform so that we can place things in the right directory, this way this tool can be used cross-platform
Python has some great tools for templating which makes things like this much easier on everyone
Scott
@anak1n91
cool
Brian Tomlinson
@darthlukan
@anak1n91 initial flask stuff added
Scott
@anak1n91
nice nice
so basically the idea I had was to just use sqlite3 and make a little database that held {{ title }} {{ author }} {{ post_body }}
oh and {{ date }}
I was looking into how flask does it and could never really get it down so I did it a different way
that's how I did it
for my main website
to grab from the ghost.db for my blog to display the latest title
at the time I last worked on this I was figuring I'd do something like
Scott
@anak1n91
Brian Tomlinson
@darthlukan
sqlalchemy dude
flask let's you choose your back-end db
sqlalchemy is the most prominent
Scott
@anak1n91
cool
oh yeah, I've seen this I've never used it though
Scott
@anak1n91
also, something I was looking at for another project was using something like yaml to just have a file that the main script reads from. that way there's really no user input, would that be plausible with this, too?
I was going to use it for my funtoo binary thing
Brian Tomlinson
@darthlukan
Yeah, that could work too
then you can either go through the assisted setup, or provide a config file via a command line argument and call it a day
Scott
@anak1n91
yep
that's what I was thinking too
Brian Tomlinson
@darthlukan
I do something similar in a much older program that I wrote (the first one I ever wrote and distributed!)
@anak1n91 Right now, @Kysimir and I are focusing on getting him up and running with Python and a dev workflow, so things will go slower than you're used to seeing
the most important thing here is learning on a "live" project, not speed of delivery :)
Scott
@anak1n91
oh no it's okay
you know me
I do things
and then I get ahead of myself
I just have all these ideas
Brian Tomlinson
@darthlukan
well, put your ideas in the issue tracker and mark them as questions or enhancements :)
then we can have things to work on
Scott
@anak1n91
wooooooord
I will
especially since I'm finally feeling like I can start working on somethings again I'm wanting to tackle something lol
