    Hi
    When cloning the github repo and starting sbt It loads a lot and then fails with java.lang.NullPointerException. Can Anyone help me to figure out what I am doing wrong?

    Stack trace, please?
    Jarl Friis
    @jarl-dk
    I am sorry. Cannot reproduce. I am pretty sure it was related to JAVA_HOME pointing to JAVA 11. Using JDK 8, everything seems to work.

    Okay. Thanks for the update. Useful to know. Scala 2.12 should work with JDK 11. I think the latest Scala 2.11 release also supports it, too, but I’m not sure.

    I think the setup was worse than so, the java binary in the path was 1.8, but JAVA_HOME pointed to JDK 11, so an improper setup not worth investigating.

    I'm in the very early stages of planning the 3rd edition of the book, which will come out in 2020 around the time Scala 3.0 is released. If you have suggestions for improvements you would like to see. Feel free to post them here or @ me on twitter, @deanwampler. Thanks!
    Related, I'll update the examples repo to Scala 2.12 and eventually 2.13, but probably on a different branch.

    Oh, and I should have done this a loooong time ago, but I created a twitter account for the book finally, @ProgScala

    Last night I updated the Programming Scala example code for Scala 2.12, along with most dependencies. The compiler flags are also stricter, so some code changes where required. Partial support for 2.13 is there, but I need a release of @scalatest first that supports 2.11-2.13.

    @deanwampler doesn't 3.0.8-RC4 support 2.11-2.13? (or are you not comfortable with using an RC?)
    Dean Wampler
    @deanwampler
    Yeah, I think you’re right. (This page is kind of a mess: https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.scalatest/scalatest) I’ll try it. Thanks!

    @SethTisue
    is the book code in a form where we could add it to the Scala community build?
    Dean Wampler
    @deanwampler
    Yes. It’s SBT based with tests. You should be able to clone and run sbt +test
    (+ just covers 2.11.12 and 2.12.8 ATM…)
    Dean Wampler
    @deanwampler
    Thanks again for the suggestion, @SethTisue. I just pushed updates so the repo builds and the tests run for Scala 2.11.12, 2.12.8, and 2.13.0-RC2.

    community build addition went smoothly: scala/community-builds@0e455e2 , [info] Project prog-scala-examples---------: SUCCESS (project rebuilt ok)

    That’s great! Thanks

    Hi, I just renamed the GitHub repo to https://github.com/deanwampler/programming-scala-book-code-examples, in preparation for starting the 3rd edition of the book. This channel still works (although I would like to rename it, if I new how...).
    Apparently you can send email to Gitter and ask them to do the rename...
    Dean Wampler
    @deanwampler
    You'll notice that the channel has been renamed!
