@aarzilli that could be the case, I haven't been able to dig into the integration too much yet, and I'm unfamiliar with emacs. Is it common for to drive something like a debugger via its terminal interface and just parse the output? The API mechanism was built out to allow better integration and machine readable format.

I haven't been an avid user of debuggers under emacs but based on what I remember of the gdb mode, yes
it's expected that you will get the debugger prompt and that you will give commands through that, the integration part just shows you the current position in the open files
maybe it's just because it was the only way with gdb but it also makes the integration work a lot easier and the user may even prefer the resulting interface

Ah, I see. If that's the case then I'll probably merge that patch in. Won't be able to do anything until this weekend however.
