I think "best" really depends on what you want to do.... We used the U3, so therefore it creates a good platform to start from.
as far as the Edison, we have done quite a bit with it, and Brandon will be able to fill you in. Though Kevin is the expert on that topic

wow that is affordable... I was actually considering putting an x86 kinda SoC up on a big fixed wing :D I'm sure making the payload run on ARM would be worth it though and scale very affordably

@vmayoral, if you'd like an Odroid U3 (which is what I use) I'd be very happy to mail you one including a Wifi dongle that I know works with Linux. Just one favour I'd ask in return is that one of the first things you do with it is try setting up a Wifi access point on it that makes a directory on the Odroid available (probably using Samba) to a PC connecting to that access point.
This offers goes out to anyone else who would like an Odroid U3 by the way as well (I have more than 1)

@rmackay9 procedure for wireless access point setup on odroid (half of what you're trying to get). http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=6282 After that I would usually use rsync/ssh2 to copy files but the samba approach is definitely more user friendly for most people. and I am really impressed that tridge offered to help you set samba up, I would also be willing if he is busy at the time.

@vmayoral is it possible to include some details on what you are expecting for test results on the youtube vids? It is hard to tell if it is just R/C free flying or fighting a lot of wind or what in some of the videos. And I missed your message earlier (before odroid mention), which is the reason I'm just looking now
like a mission planner picture in picture or something? Sorry, the production value of some of those RC hobby guys is actually REALLY high and you get spoiled, I would love to be doing my own testing in reality

I quite like this dongle because it can be purchased with different antenas
and it supports 802.11 ac. We are actually using the 5 GHz band. Quite useful when using RC controllers :)

I think maybe more than description, also showing some kinda control interface, whether its mission planner, qgroundcontrol, or even command line would be helpful to understand how you're interacting or monitoring the missions
heh yeah I find myself considering ezUHF 433mhz RC control just to free 2.4GHz for directional amplified video links

@proficnc I've been looking into the capacitors of the PXF design and i found that some of them have 0.1% tolerances. I've gone through the datasheet of the components they are attached to and i couldn't find a reason to use such low tolerance capacitors. Is there another reason behind it or did i miss something?

There are a couple that are needed, but not many, I think we need to do an overall review before the next build. I am doing a 1.6 at the moment, and will be reviewing everything. But as far as I can tell, all is functional now.

I was thinking about putting the first UBLed in the string on the board, as I have removed the Toshiba... Toughts? Also, do we need both the crypto and eeprom? We have FRAM.... And EMMC and SD card.... If we actually setup the OTP on the crypto so we can form a COA for bug and board tracking, I would like that, but let's keep the method public and simple, just the keys to be private....

The current three LEDs in the PXF are good enough for notifications when arming and so on. I doubt that an RGB LED in the autopilot would make a big difference when flying. I'd prefer the UBled configuration that the Iris+ has with a LED at the bottom on each leg.
The Crypto EEPROM has proved to be useful and quite easy to interface. I agree about the bug and board tracking. We should schedule a call to decide on these matters
