Hi all. I've successfully deployed an app with Docker using 3 containers: app, DB and nginx. Now I'd like to do the same on the same host machine but for another client. Everything must be separated. Is it enough to create a different network or do I have to do something else?

Can use different nodes for different clients on k8s with same configurations.

Is there a way to set all new containers to share networking with the host by default?
i.e. a way to make --network=host the default.

    Hi,

i have a question about binding folders.
at the moment i try to deploy a nextcloud container.

i want to bind the config folder:
    volumes:

      - nextcloud:/var/www/html
      - /opt/portainer/nextcloud/data:/var/www/html/data:rw
      - /opt/portainer/nextcloud/config:/var/www/html/config:rw

if i do that, no config will create by deploying the containers. the folder stay empty. how i can solve it?

if i dont bind the config folder and look into the container, i see many config files.

If anyone's curious, my workaround for now is making my application point to the local IP instead of localhost, which was the purpose of using host networking.

And then should be able to address the other docker with just their name(+port)

i'm not sure that this is the spot to ask this, but i'll try it anyway
i'm having a prometheus instance in a docker and another docker with the alertmanager.

My problem is that prometheus can't connect to the alertmanager. All services are started with a docker-compose, but when running i get the following errors:

    prometheus | ts=2022-07-05T09:35:14.522Z caller=notifier.go:526 level=error component=notifier alertmanager=http://alertmanager:9460/api/v2/alerts count=6 msg="Error sending alert" err="Post \"http://alertmanager:9460/api/v2/alerts\": dial tcp 172.26.0.5:9460: connect: connection refused"

All serices are in the same networkt by default because of the docker-compose, but i checked it with docker network inspect. It's just very unclear for me, if this is a docker or prometheus/alertmanager problem.

In my nginx conf files I need to specify the containers IP address in order to proxy upstream. Which all works fine, except when I restart docker, the docker containers in question often have their IP's changed in the process.
right now I only have 2 containers IP's I need to manage, so it isn't too much of a hassle to modify the conf files manually on restart. I could also just forward the ports to the host system, and just use the hosts IP.
But I'm looking for a better way if possible, where I can keep communication in the docker network. Any advice?

I want to run docker in docker using a custom image registry. I don't want to modify the host's default image registry, so I probably need 'true' docker in docker, not just socket/sibling docker in docker right?

Hey all, I have a question regarding port mapping. Do I need to map the postgres port in order to use volumes? I have a project in production and in staging, deployed with docker-compose. If I map the ports from both projects to the host port 5432 the second deploy of course complains about the port being in use. Removing the port mapping and just specifying the container port in docker-compose-yml still works as expected, regarding the volumes. In other words, data is persisted on the host and even with removing containers the new containers can access the volumes created with previous deploy. Is this ok or am I missing something elsewhere and removing port mapping will cause issued along the road?

Hey guys, I'm new here and need some guidance in opensource contribution. I've recently learned docker and I'm very keen to contribute in some projects but don't know how to do so. Big codes on github scares me. Please help me out in some way. Any tips on how I can get started on contributing in docker related projects?? What practices do I need to do??

hi all, Not a lot of traffic here. We have a docker-swarm cluster, mainly managed via portainer. We have scripts that run from time to time using swarm.cronjob.
I am looking for a way to get some kind of notification of scripts fail (i.e. the container exists with a non-zero exitcode).
Perhaps logging to graylog or so? Or mail?
