I am starting to run the payoff matrices I get from the Axelrod package.
Can you give some advice? for example how many strategies should I run the ablearn? Should I include the random strategy from the Axelrod package?

You don't need it.
What are you trying to do?
and then read http://axelrod.readthedocs.org/en/latest/overview_of_strategies.html you will be able to create tournaments very easily.
You shouldn’t need to actually look inside the library.

Ill read this then
yeah I started looking through the library because when I tried to create the Grofman player doing exactly as in the instructions it says that the module doesnt have and attribute Grofman
