    Hi @dthree, Vantage looks awesome!
    I'm trying to integrate it with a LoopBack API (based on Express) and it seems to work, but I'm not sure how to connect to everything that is defined in my application
    beeman
    @beeman
    I've set up a basic project that integrates it here: https://github.com/beeman/loopback-vantage , I'm happy to (try to) answer any questions about loopback if there are any

    @dthree
    Hey and thanks!
    Could you please give some starting examples of a few things you want to see working, and then we can go from there?
    beeman
    @beeman
    Sure, it might be good to do a short call sometime soon to show you what would be cool to have?
    dc
    @dthree
    You can just lay it out here.
    beeman
    @beeman
    Sure, no problem! As you can see in my example I attached vantage to the app in a so called boot script. This app represents the loopback app, which is basically a Rest API. This API is has one or more models, it would be great to be able to interact with them
    So if it's possible to get a reference to those models, one would be able to interact with them as via rest, making it a lot easier to debug or play around with them
    beeman
    @beeman
    Does that make any sense?

    Hey, after looking for vorpal and vantage I don't know what of the two of them to use. I've a service (implemented with autobahn) which is like a server and would like to start it in a vantage but only app with http server seems to be supported (like express or koa). I would like to know if it's possible to not specify an app and listen for a start event (I've not found any event is there ones ?) of vantage which will start my autobahn connection.

    My goal is to show the autobahn log and provide some commands to discuss with the network but more generally I would like to know if it's possible to use vantage for other service than http ? I've already try a similar solution with vorpal but I've implemented a "connect" action and other action check if the connection as been made which is does not completly satisfy actually :)

    Thanks in advance

    @dthree
    Hey.
    Vantage works in HTTP / HTTPS (basically based on socket.io), but you can pick custom ports
    Vorpal won't give you any remote "log in".
    However, I have to admit Vantage's Vorpal dep is a bit out of date and I have to do some refactoring to bring it up to date with some breaking changes, so some Vorpal API won't work on it.

    @resilva
    Hum I think that I have not explained correctly sorry I will try another way : so I have a "server" which use autobahnjs to connect with multiple clients. I was thinking of wrapping my server in a vantage app. So when starting vantage I need to initialize the connections but there is no starting event to make that. I want to wrap my server in vantage to remottely manage my server, vantage will show the log (as logging) of my server and provides me some administration commands (like add user for example). If vantage is not suites for this use case I will fallback to vorpal but I think that it could fit my requierements could you please let me know I've missunderstood something ? Thanks in advance :)
    dc
    @dthree
    I've never used it with Autobahn. It looks like you might be able to get it working if you play with it.
    I don't quite understand the "listening for a start even" part though.

    @resilva
    Hum it's just silly I've tried to start my Autbahn connection right after the start of vantage but it's not really needed anymore :)

    @dthree
    Okay got it.
    Hello!
    Jeff Harris
    @techjeffharris
    hey, @dthree! First, thanks for making awesome stuff! I'm really digging vantage/vorpal!
    Second, it appears that vantage on npm (v1.5.2) still uses vorpal 1.0.5 which is pretty out-of-date considering its at 1.10.0 on npm
    so I tried to clone vantage to attempt updating vorpal to 1.10.0, but I it is failing tests. Upon further investigation, it appears that the github repo doesn't have commits for 1.10.0, but npm does. Could you please push the latest version of vorpal to GH, when you get a few moments?
    dc
    @dthree
    Hey thanks!
    Whoops - sorry about that.
    Mid a large refactor and then will push

    er... the Vantage update is probably going to take a lot of work, as it's pretty far behind.
    That's something I was trying to get to after closing more issues on Vorpal.
    Not stopping you from taking a shot, but it might be a bit more overwhelming than you think at first!
    dc
    @dthree
    Updated Vorpal and pushed.

    @JoeMattie
    so, has this project been abandoned?
    dc
    @dthree
    @JoeMattie hi there. More like the author has run out of time recently to work too much on OSS. It works as is, however needs a good update to the latest Vorpal, which has a lot of good API changes. This update will break some things, however, so will take some time and I haven't been able to go through it yet!

    @oronoa
    How do I print error msgs in vantage ?
    fogine
    @fogine
    @oronoa , just print to the stderr... eg.:
    console.error('Error massege');

    hi, everyone. what is the right way to expose specific application objects to vantage in REPL mode?

    basically, similar to how you can expose objects in the standard node.js REPL via context: https://nodejs.org/api/repl.html#repl_global_and_local_scope.

    Is this project still active?

    Guess the quote above (from a year ago) remains the same

    It's always sad to see such great packages fade away. If Vantage and Vorpal were combined thoroughly and developed under a dedicated team that would be beautiful.
