    Hi! Is anyone online?
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    Hi Leonardo! I'm online now

    @cnrmck
    Hi @ernoaapa I'm considering using Eliot, could you answer a couple of questions I have for you?
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    Hi @cnrmck ! Happy to hear. What questions do you have in mind?

    @manchoz
    Hi @ernoaapa, it seems that eliot_0.2.9-rc1_linux_arm.tar.gz release file is corrupted gzip: eliot_0.2.9-rc1_linux_arm.tar.gz: invalid compressed data--format violated
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    Hi @manchoz!
    Thanks for point out. I'm using arm64 mainly so never spotted that it's corrupted.
    Giampaolo Mancini
    @manchoz
    I'm trying to get eliot running on FriendlyElec's NanoPi NEOs: I'm currently working on a NEO Air with a pre-installed arm32 Ubuntu Core 16.04.
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    @manchoz NanoPi looks interesting.
    You could try building eliot locally if you're in hurry.
    I'm planning to update the containerd version soo so another RC will be available soon.
    Giampaolo Mancini
    @manchoz
    @ernoaapa eliot builds fine. I'm trying to compile/get containerd working
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    @manchoz did you get the containerd working?
    Giampaolo Mancini
    @manchoz
    Yes, i did. Just needed to install some external tool (nfpm) to get the build script run til the end
    Everything seems to work fine, I was not able to test it properly because my 4G Internet connection was not behaving very well yesterday and I run out of time. I will report you as soon as I will have everything tested properly.

    Hi @ernoaapa, I'm like the ideas behind eliot and I have a couple questions :)
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    Hi @hopist_gitlab! happy to hear :) What you have in mind?
    Laurent
    @hopist_gitlab
    First is: you states eliot is a "kubernetes-like" solution somewhere is the docs.
    Is it (somewhat) compliant with regular kubernetes clusters?
    If not, is it a middle/long term goal?
    Laurent
    @hopist_gitlab
    and second question (related to first one ...):
    how eliotd compares with kubelet? does it shares some code etc?
    Obviously: feel free to answer to those later and I won't likely be able to read the answer until tomorrow (European time). Bye
    Laurent
    @hopist_gitlab
    Hi @ernoaapa , I am still interested to know the relation between eliot and regular K8s clusters, so I hope you will have a couple of minutes to enlighten me about that :)
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    Sorry, @hopist_gitlab forgot to reply to you.
    Initially my plan was to just follow Kubernetes concepts like Pods and command line interface kubectl get pods etc. but just reuse some code and implement it on top of containerd to keep it really lightweight and simple. And that Eliot is. It is really simple comparing to Kubelet for example not to mention whole Kubernetes cluster.
    Of course i'm not happy to duplicate code so plan was to re-use as much code from Kubelet as possible, but at the moment, there wasn't too much to re-use so end up to be small pieces here and there.
    At the moment Eliot is really simple layer on top of containerd and you can manage just single device at the time. Many people have asked from me that what are the next steps, is there some management server coming up to be able to manage multiple devices remotely.
    I'm in middle of thinking what should be the next steps for Eliot because by going to that direction it will become larger and soon we end up to duplicate same thing what Kubernetes is doing already.
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    I like the simplicity of Eliot. For example, you can install Eliot to device and manage the device without any central master servers.
    But Kubernetes is really well written and there's super talented people behind and not to mention huge community. There's also Kubernetes IoT workgroup (i'm part of it) thinking about how Kubernetes would fit into IoT scene. I'm consulting companies about Kubernetes at my daily job, so I know it really well so I'm more than happy if good parts of Eliot would merge into it.
    So at the moment, I'm thinking what would be the next steps. Hopefully in few months I'm able to come to some conclusion.
    I'm open for ideas, please share if you have any :) Also I'm interested to hear why you're interested of Eliot so I can understand what are the things what people looking for. Thanks! :)
    Laurent
    @hopist_gitlab
    Hi @ernoaapa , thank you very much for your detailed response. It make things clearer for me !
    Also thank you for mentioning the IoT WG, I didn't think to look for that before ! Do you if there is a place that sums up main topics discussed in this WG and potential decisions ideas etc?
    Laurent
    @hopist_gitlab
    My interest in all of that is that I'm working for a company that, among other products, creates wireless gateways, and we are thinking about what should be our next solution to manage applications remotely. The context is fleets of devices so the management of several devices is mandatory. Anyway, I'm looking at all the projects that can help make K8S a better fit for embedded devices constraints.
    Thank you for the link, will take a look !
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    @hopist_gitlab this is interesting. Can we have a call/hangout? I would like to hear more and share some ideas.
    Laurent
    @hopist_gitlab
    Hey, cool! What tool you do you prefer to use for that purpose?. E.g I'm logged into k8S slack woarkspace. Or maybe this gitter can help ? (I don't know much about it)
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    K8s slack is ok, I'm there with name ernoaapa
    In what timezone you are? For me perfect time for call would be in 3h (14:30 Finnish time)
    Laurent
    @hopist_gitlab
    OK I'll ping you there.

    hi! some one know how to manage secrets with Eliot?
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    Hi @talishte! You can mount a file from the host which includes the secret, like this https://github.com/ernoaapa/eliot/blob/master/examples/sshd.yml#L9-L15

    How active is Eliott? What kind of limitations does it have?
    How close are we to be able to run that in prod?
    peterecofit
    @peterecofit
    Hey there, I'm looking at Eliott for production use and have same questions as @lewisdiamond . Is this actively developed?
    Erno Aapa
    @ernoaapa
    Hi @lewisdiamond and @peterecofit
    Thanks for reaching out! Eliot is live and rocking :D It might look like dead, but I have been working offline with early customers to build new open source version of Eliot what will be base on top of Kubernetes and commercial offering.
    I would really like to talk with you both. Can you send me a email to erno@eliot.run, thanks!
    peterecofit
    @peterecofit
    Hey @ernoaapa I sent you an email. I'd love to discuss further about Eliot!

    Hi, did you have any public success cases of people using Eliot?
    pawel
    @pawelevans
    Hi, is this project still active? I am trying to build elios for raspberry pi using 'eli build device' but getting timeout errors
