hi @me-no-dev I compiled esp8266/Arduino from git just to be sure but dns-sd is still not working (nor is ota). any advice on how I could investigate/debug why i don't see the dns-sd service?

firewall?
latest changes for OTA are not in the main trunk yet
but still should show

do packets from esp show up in tcpdump?

open terminal and execute:
dns-sd -B _arduino._tcp
ficeto@Hristos-Mac-mini ~ $ dns-sd -B _arduino._tcp
Browsing for _arduino._tcp

hold on
it's showing up
entirely my fault i believe
openwrt actually was not set up how i thought i was
stopped firewall, dnsmasq and odhcpd on the openwrt and voila it is working
thanks!
btw, not having the board reset when opening the serial console makes life so much easier. i wonder if that will appear in the official builds of the IDE

@me-no-dev
Jul 12 2015 18:27
what?
the telnet thing you mean?
if you have all cables hooked up correctly and open serial console it should reset
Ivan Grokhotkov
@igrr
Jul 12 2015 18:29
the disable DTR and RTS thing
Me No Dev
@me-no-dev
Jul 12 2015 18:29
where is that?
Ivan Grokhotkov
@igrr
Jul 12 2015 18:29
in serial monitor
actually with a decent reset circuit like nodemcu has its not necessary

@me-no-dev
Jul 12 2015 18:30
i do not see it in my IDE, might be old

so far i have used a separate terminal program but it really sucks to have to connect and disconnect manually all the time
@igrr do you still want to push it upstream?

any idea what could cause this?

flash mode (dio/qio), frequency?
Me No Dev
@me-no-dev
Jul 12 2015 18:37
@igrr OTA also requires changes in the IDE if we want to be able to use it
in the new version in the main repo the path that a network install has changed and it will no longer be passed to esptool
any network device goes to SSH
Serial Moitor also requires changes to work with sokets
what will we do if they refuse those?
probonopd
@probonopd
Jul 12 2015 18:39
i am using qio and i have tried both flash frequencies
actually no change with dio
and the combination dio with 80mhz does not even upload

Jul 12 2015 18:40
yes i've seen that. I have emailed Arduino team regarding this, waiting for feedback

is my module defective?
@igrr with proper reset circuitry you mean PNP and a capacitor?
what is the recommended value for C1 and Q1?

Jul 12 2015 18:43
check nodemcu schematics for the circuit
probonopd
@probonopd
Jul 12 2015 18:47
the nodemcu schematics i find seem to use a button, i was looking for a buttonless circuit
hold on, got it
they have a button and auto reset

@me-no-dev changed ESP8266HueEmulator to use your SSDP from git

@probonopd
Jul 12 2015 19:42
@igrr I can confirm that the nodemcu reset schematic is working for me using 2 NPNs and 2 resistors
do you want me document this? (or is it?)

Is there a solution to where I want to have changes in separate pull requests but the fixes for the first were merged on my fork but I don't want them to show in the second pull request?

hue for ios? or chroma for os x?
( i haven't tried others)

@Links2004 regarding esp8266/Arduino#539, would you mind if i don't merge SDK dumps? Perhaps SDK related things belong more to https://github.com/esp8266/esp8266-wiki rather than Arduino, what do you think?
