The DMD2 library that I'm slowly but surely porting, the demo sketches that came with it used to stop for a split second or so about 2 seconds into execution after a hard reset.

Well, I'm glad to report that that behaviour is gone with the changes over the last few days, now execution is much smoother.

Does any know the baud rate to use when wanting to see the ESP startup text where it shows AI-Thinker?

I've not seen that text, but at 74880 baud I get info, other rates to try are 9600 and 115200 typically.
I think the ai-thinker message might be specific to the AT firmware, but I could be wrong on that.

I also get some garbage on my NodeDev 1.0 at boot. I think at 9600 I can read it but just never cared much.

@igrr Please check out pull esp8266/Arduino#607, it contains a fix for the GPIO interrupt and the change to use IntLevel for the ETS_INTR_WITHINISR function.

does anybody know if the I2C Oled 128x64 screen works with the ESP libraries in Arduino Ide ? I’ve had issues with it. I got it working with Arduino and after starting this thread: https://community.particle.io/t/oled-128x64-i2c-help-and-advice/13663/3 I got it working with particle using modified Adafruit SSD1306 library..
any thoughts
Also I had the same OTA mDNA issues that CptanPanic had: https://github.com/esp8266/Arduino/issues/268#issuecomment-124281771

@prussiap i have it running but without any of the libraries

the i2c oled? how
do you have code you can share ?

wooahh.. hmm what changes did you have to make? so i add this to my main sketch with an include/require ? then call methods or use setup/loop that’s bilt in ?
trying to keep the main code base simple and add things through libraries as needed

i'd just begin by uploadin my sketch and see if it works for you
if it does, then go from there

@probonopd also fantastic thanks ;)
@probonopd i need to get my esp-12 dev board up and running will try this today
thanks again.. also @igrr I saw device called sweatpeas esp-210 board. anybody know if there is a schematic or way to buy this board? looks awesome

you can order it here http://www.sweetpeas.se
personally i think it's a waste to have usb as part of the board, depending on what you want to do with it
nodemcu 1.0 is a very similar board but might be easier and cheaper to buy
i think having usb is vital to quick debug unless the ota works well .. once in the final system will be important to update things
@probonopd i didn’t see it on that page when i checked yesterday still don’t .. maybe not for sale yet or backordered.. thanks anyway for the link

I am getting the normal preprocessor errors like ...

    at java.util.regex.Pattern$GroupHead.match(Pattern.java:4658)

I have the verbose compiler option set and I used to get some hint as to the real problem with this on, but I am getting nothing now. How do I try to figure out what is causing the preprocessor to spew and hang the compile process?

its a java error so its from the arduino IDE, not from gcc toolchain.
the arduino IDE makes an error by generating the files that later one will be compiled.

A lot of these preprocessor errors happen due to problem elsewhere, so sometimes a compiler error shows up early on that causes the chain reaction. In my case there was no clue. It was a sample, I moved on and created a simple test.

ngh, just spent a couple of hours thinking my esp or i was crazy
just now did i remember that if you change an external file you have to close and re-open the project in arduino ide

is the arduino ide automatically looking for updates to the libraries?
