did anyone of you guys make an internet radio with the esp8266, is it even possible? Or should that job be left for the Rpi :D

@marksev1 i have done some internet radio stuff, but to be honest, you better look towards the Pi

It really looks like that Bluetooth was dropped from the ESP32. Even the user manual is saying that ESP32 just "[...] provides a Wi-Fi solution in the 2.4GHz band by using 40nm technology." (See https://fccid.io/document.php?id=2921009)

@marksev1 looks like the espressif guys had done an internet streaming radio that decompress mp3 and stream it through the i2s
@marksev1 but ESPs got only little bit of ram, so it requires an external spi ram chip to get "good enough" buffering, or it stutters a lot.
@marksev1 or you want really good internet connection.

@Palatis you'll be better off getting VS1053 to offload the decoding and support more formats
that software decoding is not that good

@Palatis
Apr 10 2016 16:09
@marksev1 and you need a i2s codec ic

Apr 10 2016 16:09
and if you do not have i2s hardware, the result will be even worst
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Apr 10 2016 16:09
@marksev1 or try abuse the i2s hw...
well, "good-old-telephone-line-ish" quality.

have you tried the example?
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Apr 10 2016 16:11
sort of, I tried to generate some waveform with the i2s (without an i2s codec)
but didn't do the decoding stuff.
and trashed it...

I wa not able to get any reasonable quality out of mad player
and I even got i2s hardware to test it with

the best I got is to use VS1053 for the sound and the ESP for net

but for all that price and hassle you just get a R.Pi...

true :)
maybe ESP32 will do with it's extra memory and core

A while ago, I've done some Internet Radio receiver with OpenWrt such TL-WR703 or GLiNet modules with USB-Audio attached.

I guess that if the esp32 will be strong enough for that, you might be able to fit it in a rechargable Bluetooth speakers and get a portable internet radio.

and u can get 4~5 esp8266 with the price of one TL-WR703n...

dunno, LinkIt Smart 7688 looked fun, but it's running OpenWRT...
i mean, there's nothing wrong with OpenWRT, but A RTOS or no-os at all might squeeze out more juice from it.

so maybe best bet for internet radio would be pizero+wifi dongle+cheap chinese usb audio card
or a dac from china

Hi! On a basic web server sketch I'm having a delay, like the webpage takes ~4 seconds to load. Is the culprit of the browser or the ESP? Also, can I use the async web server in platformio? Maybe should I consider switching to async?

@\all (non-spamming slash :smile:) the old users: I was very busy these months. However I'll start to have more time.

@Links2004: Finally I got working the LED dimming. I'm working on a stable firmware for it.
