sometimes my esp8266 is in WIFI_EVENT_STAMODE_GOT_IP but still can not send or receive traffic.
it just sits there, trying to resolve a hostname, that it never can resolve, over and over again.
poor little sucker

could I ping the default GW or DNS to detect such situation?

Hi folks, I'm looking for a general "draft" of a solution and I hope someone here can help me: I've written an application that implements a simple service with mDNS. This works fine when I type in the esp's url in an iOS device, but fails with android. Laptop systems seem to find it sometimes, sometimes not.
if I'm not mistaken android doesn't have an mDNS discovery built in, so I need to look for something entirely different like a classic server plus DNS somewhere else, which could be my router plus an optional raspberry pi which is already sitting next to it doing nothing
it does have what you need

just to understand that correctly: you suggest writing an app?
(an app for android)

you said that you think that Android does not have mdns, and I just likend you to the documentation for running mdns on android
if you talk about just name resolution (espsomething.local) in the browser, then that probably depends either on the browser or the OEM that made the device

ah ok so it does. the common opinion on stack exchange sounds different and my phone doesn't find a device that worked well with windows and iOS
