This MAX7317 is SPI, so taking several pins for adding a few ... MCP23017 is a better solution bringing 16 GPIOs while consuming only 2 pins for I2C.

GJ...
I used esp8266 to make the product prototype
and my boss decided to switch to stm32+bcm43341
so I went study stm32+bcm43341 for like few months
and then he tells me that the price is too high, now switching back to esp8266.
WTF

Eh, didn't they consider price before they made a decision about switching?

@Palatis just in time for esp32 to come out and switch again :P

yeah really
they want BT
"can't we just have BT?"
and I was like "yeah, but, what for?"
".... marketing? ppl buy stuff if they got both BT AND WIFI"
dunno, I'm actually looking into esp32
can't get any sample
that's bad

I guess BT can be used to setup the device instead of WiFi

Aug 28 2016 19:58
called espressif, they won't provide even esp31b
Me No Dev
@me-no-dev
Aug 28 2016 19:58
esp31b does not have BT
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Aug 28 2016 19:59
I dunno, I just use the (stupid)-smartconfig
doesn't matter
cuz, they wanna use BT to determine RSSI, to find out how far the phone is away from the device...

everything is better with bluetooth

esp32 is in manufacturing, so expect it to hit the shelves soon

I say, why don't we just do it with WIFI RSSI?
"cuz we want BT for marketing."
what can you say?
I'm just a tiny RD, my words weights nothing.
so, okay, go for BT then.
and after like 2~3 months tell me "ok the price is too high, lets go back to esp8266."
so I guess I'll be stealing salary for the next few weeks just to wait for HW to layout the god damn schematics and get a devel pcb...
i thought they're providing esp32 somewhere late Sep?

there is plenty of work befor you have a pcb.

the works are almost done during the prototyping process.

I was asked to study that bcm solution JUST FOR BT
making me kinda blue anyway.
in mood i mean
I wasn't connecting enough LEDs and Buttons because of the lack of IO pins during the prototyping process
the only thing left is I2S, cuz I don't get a DAC either.
and I was keep argue about "get me the god damn I2S DAC so I can start my work! even OK if I have to etch my own breakout board"
and my boss just ignore me...
last week, my boss said "Hey Victor, we don't have any progress this week! what you think?"
what I think? I've got almost nothing left to do...
sometimes you just can't understand what those management departments are thinking

does he know any kind of programming?
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Aug 28 2016 20:09
he writes crappy PHP
if that's considered "programming"
at least <?php echo "<html></html>"; ?> stuff
Me No Dev
@me-no-dev
Aug 28 2016 20:10
so he is used to wite a couple of lines and get result i the browser
it's still some programming, just at a different level
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Aug 28 2016 20:10
I dunno, I wrote the cloud service, the android app, and the mcu firmware.
total solution provider, eigh?

He expects to see something change all of the time :D
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Aug 28 2016 20:11
but I'm stall, I don't have the required hardware to continue my progress /_\
there's a 8051 used as an IO expander to control LEDs, Buttons, and some ADC. I just offload the work to a n00b fw engr. :-P
and now I have to review the hw schematics because the hw can't get the UART upload interface right...
really a headache
Me No Dev
@me-no-dev
Aug 28 2016 20:17
there is also this
no BT though
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Aug 28 2016 20:17
dunno, anyway, even now, I don't get the I2S DAC, so I dunno if my "dumping wav from SPIFFS to I2S" codes works or not.
this is like super high price
E30.99
he wants to have a BOM cost of around USD$15
rejected bcm solution because the module cost $5...
esp-wroom-02 is like $2
Me No Dev
@me-no-dev
Aug 28 2016 20:21
I have no idea how much esp32 will cost when out
it might be even more than $5
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Aug 28 2016 20:21
around $2 ~ $3
per 1k MOQ
Me No Dev
@me-no-dev
Aug 28 2016 20:22
that is for bare chips right?
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Aug 28 2016 20:22

Aug 28 2016 20:22
that is a good price
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Aug 28 2016 20:23
and because it would have enough pins, we can eliminate the 8051.
Me No Dev
@me-no-dev
Aug 28 2016 20:23
I expected it to be more
Victor Tseng
@Palatis
Aug 28 2016 20:23
and just connect everything back to the mcu module
yeah if you want just 1, it's $5
if buy at bulk, the price would be a lot cheaper
may even get to $1.5 or $1.75 per 10k
dunno
the smaller pcb size also cuts the price down a bit, since we don't need the 51 anymore
