Check an Etherscan of your wallet address to see what tokens you have in your wallet. Use Deltabalances to see what tokens you have on the EtherDelta smart contract.
If your token is not listed, you can take the contract address of your ERC20 token and place it in the URL where the XXXXX's are. Go to that URL for a trading page. https://forkdelta.app/#!/trade/XXXXX-ETH
You log in with your wallet address and private key, or in the case of metamask, you use the password and when you go to ForkDelta you are automatically logged in. If you are already in ForkDelta, just refresh the page.

You also need to use https://metamask.io in order to transact. Import your current wallet into metamask and choose it as the one you want to transact with.
Once you've initiated a deposit (this pertains to a legitimate 'Deposit', not simply a 'Transfer') you're given two transaction hashes to track. One hash is the call to the token contract to request the 'Deposit' and if it's approved then the second hash is the 'Deposit' to the smart contract. Both can be tracked on https://etherscan.io. When both have 'Succeeded' your deposit is then verified.
In order to see your deposit, you must be on the correct token trading page. If your token is not listed, you can take the contract address of your ERC20 token and place it in the URL where the XXXXX's are. Go to that URL for a trading page. https://forkdelta.app/#!/trade/XXXXX-ETH

There isn't any activation.
You just create an account and fund it, then trade. There are some details you needs to be aware of.
You need to use https://metamask.io in order to transact.
Metamask is a wallet and the only wallet you need to transact.
