Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
Just set this up, a group called "planners" and added you and Greg to that. We'll add more as people show interest. Let me know if it works: https://ethereum-magicians.org/c/staff/council-planning
Boris Mann
@bmann
That link doesn’t seem to work
I logged out and logged back in
Let me see if I can find the forum through the UI
Nope. Can’t see it.
Also — its a bit messy, but you might want to plan for granularity.
Might be because it’s nested in Staff and I don’t have staff access.
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
Yes actually, it is beause it was nested under Staff! I took it out of there, hopefully will work now. We'll probably put it back there later on.
Boris Mann
@bmann
Ok. I’m in. I have some time this morning and will look to get the landing page up as I described in the post there.
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
Thanks for getting that kickstarted, I'll respond there. Do you have a Matrix/Riot account? LMK what it is and I'll add you to the Web3 / Berlin group.
Boris Mann
@bmann
@borismann:matrix.org
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
Ok, just added you.
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
As we proceed with a website and interest form, it is important to state what the goals of the event are. Certain aspects can be open format, however I think we should closely follow the principles and practices when framing the purpose and the work we hope to get done.
Boris Mann
@bmann
For sure.
There is a balance here between “I want to be an observer” and “I have a specific thing to contribute”
Do you have a write up of those goals?
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
Currently we are somewhat aligned with EIP workflows, including "Meta" which is process improvements like EIP-956. But we could use more brainstorming like the category "primordial soup" and so on.
Additionally, there is a sister process which is going "meta" on governance, EIP0 Summit. This is a separate group still defining itself but with lots of participant overlap.
Boris Mann
@bmann
OK. I got repo access and put a placeholder in. docs/ sub folder is easier than a branch, so set up placeholder.
I know Jekyll pretty well, just not a designer, so I can find a theme, but the index.html is fine for now
Lane Rettig
@lrettig
Hey guys :) @jpitts thanks for mentioning EIP0. We’re still figuring out what comes next for the initiative but there’s a chance we may plan something alongside the Magicians’ gathering in berlin.
For folks interested in the “philosophical” side of governance as well as the technical
Boris Mann
@bmann
@lrettig yeah this whole concept of "shoulder" events is something that we should lean into
Lane Rettig
@lrettig
I thought the term was spoon, haha
Boris Mann
@bmann
It lets people do their own thing while we still collaborate on space / social gatherings / etc etc
@jpitts I am correct in saying that the magicians are technical / code focused and that is the main goal?
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
Yes, although I imagine that Meta EIPs will have a working group.
Boris Mann
@bmann
OK. So @lrettig focusing on non-technical aspects would be good. I'm concerned about the split here, but that's about par for the course in open source communities.
Just means I have to do some work on wording in inviting people to participate which we'll all need to copy-edit to get the intent right.
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
There is significant demand for the general subject of governance and "philosophy", and EIP0 captures that. Hopefully there will be some overlap in terms of timing, but not too much because we'd want people to put work in on both efforts!
Boris Mann
@bmann
Yep. Hence "shoulder" -- before/after
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
Yep :)
Boris Mann
@bmann
@jpitts are the dates set at all?
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
Not yet, we have a set of proposed dates and may need to coordinate more closely with those tasked with securing the venue.
Boris Mann
@bmann
Draft form @jpitts @lrettig Form -- https://goo.gl/forms/xTYJHOV2R6FQfN4m2
Likely needs way more wordsmithing and most importantly needs topics
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
Also there is this suggestion from cryptowanderer, to use Status bounty for tech work. I hooked this up for several of the python projects and it is interesting. https://ethereum-magicians.org/t/berlin-council-planning-wiki-feedback/325/9?u=jpitts
Boris Mann
@bmann
Yes. If we can use bounties that is great. I worry that it over emphasizes production work over planning.
But having a template and unique logo for each event is really great for community building
And NFT token for all attendees ;)
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
That would be really cool
Boris Mann
@bmann
@jpitts are you around? Let's settle on 14th & 15th -- the weekend dates as well
I'[d like a thumbs up from you on that before I do it unilaterally :)
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
Ok let me check the dates entered on that spreadsheet
Boris Mann
@bmann
Right now of the 5 / 6 entries we have, everybody is ok with 14-15th, and two prefer 14-15th.
Not a useful enough sample size yet, but cbase wants a decision so they can free up the other dates
Jamie Pitts
@jpitts
ok cool, also this gives some space for Zug + getting to Berlin
Boris Mann
@bmann
yeah I don't think there is a lot of Zug overlap necessarily
