@frozeman
its very likely that we will see another ethereum classic then
Eth-Gitter-Bridge
@Eth-Gitter-Bridge
[Vitalik Buterin] or maybe they'll just pump the existing ETC

I guess @karalabe won't be the wrong person to reach out to
Eth-Gitter-Bridge
@Eth-Gitter-Bridge
[Vitalik Buterin] Fun fact: right now bloom filters of blocks are on average 1/4 full, so a check for a log of some specific topic will scan through 1 in 64 extraneous blocks
[Vitalik Buterin] right now, each bloom table entry is assigned 3 bits
[Vitalik Buterin] suggesting that if it was assigned 1 bit, it would be 91% empty (91% 3 = 75%)
[Vitalik Buterin] suggesting that if it was assigned 1 bit, it would be 91% empty (91% ^ 3 = 75%)
[Vitalik Buterin] the optimum would have actually been 6 bits at current levels, but oh well
[Vitalik Buterin] at double current levels, the optimum is 3-4 bits
[Vitalik Buterin] so if we're going to do abstraction, which would start logging a bunch more random stuff
Eth-Gitter-Bridge
@Eth-Gitter-Bridge
[Vitalik Buterin] then it seems we guessed about right

@karalabe
@chriseth I occasionally bump the geth version there, but I don't have a mac (never had in my life), so I can't validate/test any modifications to it. Perhaps @fjl?
Alex Beregszaszi
@axic
@tcsiwula that issue has been fixed here: ethereum/homebrew-ethereum#136
chriseth
@chriseth
@karalabe we are in the same boat :)
I bump the version and change the hash, but I actually have no idea what I'm doing there ;-)

Whoever is in control of yellowpaper.io: Please either keep it up to date or change it to be a redirect to http://ethereum.github.io/yellowpaper/paper.pdf - ethereum/yellowpaper#271
Daniel A. Nagy
@nagydani
@Souptacular , you told me that you're ready to merge ethereum/EIPs#681
Please do. Thanks!
Nick Savers
@nicksavers
@nagydani That EIP doesn't seem to have copyright notice yet
Daniel A. Nagy
@nagydani
@nicksavers would waiving copyright via CC0 work?
William Entriken
@fulldecent
@chriseth Maybe we should state explicitly in the repo that yellopaper.io is NOT canonical

@zscole
Is this room active?
Jared Wasinger
@jwasinger
no :P
Zak Cole
@zscole
damn
Jared Wasinger
@jwasinger
jk it most definitely is
Zak Cole
@zscole
lol
is there a section for performance engineering?
Jared Wasinger
@jwasinger
no. not specifically (to my knowledge)
Zak Cole
@zscole
well shit
why not?
performance testing?
rather than engineering
Jared Wasinger
@jwasinger
on a specific client?
Zak Cole
@zscole
i'm just trying to do some general research right now, so anything, really.
Jared Wasinger
@jwasinger
can you be more specific about what you are looking to find?
Zak Cole
@zscole
i'm doing some research on the effects of WAN conditions on consensus algorithms, governance, anf just general protocols.
such as latency, packet loss, bandwidth, or other network impairments
Eth-Gitter-Bridge
@Eth-Gitter-Bridge
[Hudson Jameson] @zscole try the ethereum/research gitter channel. There may be people in there who are interested in that.
Zak Cole
@zscole
@Souptacular seems kinda dead over there on the research channel
Tim Siwula
@timxor
More async style, deff not daily stand-ups in here
Zak Cole
@zscole
I'll check out that white paper though
Thanks
Hard to find architects
to talk to about this kind of stuff

This repo has some recent benchmarks we were aggregating across platforms for the opcodes https://github.com/ethereum/benchmarking
