agnewpickens
@agnewpickens
sent finney to an easy password wallet to add new owner and that transaction went thru really fast...
so did the finney I sent to new owning account, YAY!!!
agnewpickens
@agnewpickens
also, the admin page for one of my testnet tokens has activated on Main if anybody wants the address to play around with it.
only have 4.62 Finney in there, but it is lit up blue.
the token itself drained empty when I went to watch it...

I'm wondering how the mining part works w.r.t. the gas
if you are the one successfully adding a block, then you get to keep the value of gas of the included transactions right?
couldn't someone patch the client to always report "I used all the gas"
Rincker
@Rincker
I think mining has negative gas, just like some transactions that clean up the blockchain.
Rincker
@Rincker
Geth still stops, it must be something with the peer discovery part.

@domschiener
If I want to run --fast, which db am I supposed to delete again for it to work from scratch?
the chaindata?
ellis2323
@ellis2323
yes remove the chaindata directory ou rename it
use the 1.5 version... It is way faster
Dominik Schiener
@domschiener
you mean the dev branch?
I'm currently on 1.4.5
Rincker
@Rincker
Yes
Dominik Schiener
@domschiener
ok, I'll try it on my other one
Rincker
@Rincker
Why can't one simply import the chain for about 80%
ellis2323
@ellis2323
geth --fast with 1.5 version synchs in 22min on my system. geth syncs or import is 3h30 at min
geth --fast with 1.4 version synchs in 1h at min
Dominik Schiener
@domschiener
I already got a sync error - but it seems to be continuing now
Jarrad
@jarradh
can't seem to edit wiki page but "timespamp" on https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/wiki/Managing-your-accounts

@Rincker
If anyone wants to attent the crypto conference in Amsterdam on june 9th let me know, I can arrange a discount..
Dominik Schiener
@domschiener

Did my synchronization just fail? It is just printing out

I0604 15:38:53.063892 eth/downloader/downloader.go:1418] imported 50 state entries in 88.563969ms: processed 54397 in total

Etc. right now. eth.syncing returns false

or is it processing all the Blocks which I've downloaded so far?
and after that it will continue to sync?
I'm doing --fast btw
Rocky Fikki
@rfikki
@domschiener looks ok. Notice you will be at a conference in St. Louis I may be attending.
Dominik Schiener
@domschiener
yeh I'm just confused as before it was downloading blocks (first time I'm doing --fast, simply because I cannot sync normally, so I had to delete the entire chaindata)
sounds cool, I'll present IOTA there ;)
Rocky Fikki
@rfikki
I find that using the --verbosity=3 flag seems to be less problematic when syncing.
Péter Szilágyi
@karalabe
@domschiener Please try dev builds
They sync faster, by a lot
Also if you don't mind building geth for yourself, there's a PR aggregating a lot of further fixes, which also speed things considerably
This is the PR if you'd be willing to build manually ethereum/go-ethereum#2657
Otherwise pull a binary from our nightly build bot: https://gitter.im/ethereum/go-ethereum?at=57526dc7e8163f872c4de23c
This doesn't contain all the fixes, but it's a lot faster than the stable branch
i have a full synch in 3h and a fast in 20minutes
Péter Szilágyi
@karalabe
Awesome, those numbers seem to check out with my local numbers. Still higher than I'd like (for full sync), but hey, one step at a time :)
Thanks a lot for doing these benchmarks!
Really appreciate to have an outside comparison
@ellis2323 Can I tweet out the results? :D
Do you have a twitter user I can refer? :)
found it:)

Hey guys. I was just wondering if any of you will be at gophercon this year? Thought maybe those of us there could meet up and talk about what we are all doing.
ellis2323
@ellis2323
i am writing articles on Ethereum. i will publish a chapter on geth and post my bench on it (https://www.gitbook.com/book/ellis2323/blckchn/details )
Péter Szilágyi
@karalabe
Really curious about it :)
