Hi there, I have pulled the ethereum/client-go within a docker container, I've synced the client but it takes already a day, I have 19G downloaded, does anyone knows when this will stop?
*it has taken

Do people run geth --fast on their DESKTOPS? doesn't it hog the cpu to make it usable as a desktop for you?
Rocky Fikki
@rfikki
Run it on my laptop with no problem. 16Gb ram and ssd drive.
Christian Seberino
@cseberino
Rocky: well there you go...i got 4 Gb RAM :(
Rocky Fikki
@rfikki
Yep, that might be it.
Can you upgrade to 8Gb RAM? it is very cheap...
Christian Seberino
@cseberino
i'll try...thanks for the help

@Rincker
geth fast worked but I stopped it and now it's back to block nr 1 again
Rincker
@Rincker
@karalabe I can use geth --fast but how do I then start the console or do anything else without having to start all over again..

How do I sign a message/email using a private key from geth or mist?
Wilfried Chauveau
@ithinuel
Hello
Wilfried Chauveau
@ithinuel
Is this the right place to discuss about (potential) issue in geth ?
Christian Seberino
@cseberino
I compiled Solidity compiler (solc) from source...now can i ask how now tell geth where to access it to use? I tried geth --solc <path to solc binary> attach but that didn't work
Péter Szilágyi
@karalabe
@ithinuel If it's a security issue, please contact a core dev (@obscuren @fjl @karalabe) in private or send an email to bounty@ethdev.com
Jeffrey Wilcke
@obscuren
@homotopycolimit hash the contents and use it as parameter to eth_sign
Péter Szilágyi
@karalabe
@ithinuel A new bounty email address was also set up bounty@ethereum.org as we're trainsioning ethdev addresses to ethereum
Wilfried Chauveau
@ithinuel
@karalabe I don't think it's a security issue, it's about the sync process & the fact that is often stall and need a relaunch of geth to continue :x
Péter Szilágyi
@karalabe
that is a know issue and was fixed, just needs to be merged
Please try this PR ethereum/go-ethereum#2657
it contains all the fixes already in develop + 3 more PRs pending that will hopefully be merged asap
btw, these (develop + linked commits) are all the changes slated for the next release
however if you think there's an issue beside the ones already fixed
please do detail it
:)

Hi guys, I'm trying to run a local private geth cluster. Can someone tell me the correct geth CL-options to restrict p2p discoving to local network (e.g. 192/172.*) only ?
Péter Szilágyi
@karalabe
There isn't such a feature. You can either run a local bootstrap node and make sure all your peers only ever connect to it and not outside bootstrap nodes, or you could manually disable the discovery and manually add peer connections via the console.
Oliver Janssen
@wildgarden
Thanks, thats what I'm currently doing. I was wondering if there is such a feature, since the listing port can be specified.
Wilfried Chauveau
@ithinuel
@karalabe :D Thank you, i'll try this as soon as I can !

Hey people, I'm not the savviest developper and started programming not so long ago so go calm on the technical jargon. I downloaded ethereum wallet and Geth and I can't open my wallet it just says:
"No ethereum Node binary found: Please start one manually before".

Windows 32 bit?

Ugh, got Mist and Geth up and running on my other laptop with Lubuntu 14.04 32 bit last two days and now the app is in a world of hurt after syncing 350K on Test and 150K on Main. Anybody got any suggestions, I am running in recovery mode right now on that beast.
agnewpickens
@agnewpickens
Ugh, the sync threw off my system time clock, recover is in process of repairing stuff. I thought Wallet 7.4 had taken care of clock issues.
originaltbs
@originaltbs
I had previously synced the testnet but now when i try to start geth again it just just hangs there after outputting:

originaltbs
@originaltbs
about 5 minutes
i'll try again
agnewpickens
@agnewpickens
you might try deleting chaindata (i'd get a backup first) and resync
