Greetings, everyone!

I am meeting with the current coordinator of the Vancouver Ethereum Meetup today, to see how we can kick things up a notch. I'm thinking it would be good for us to schedule a Homestead Pi Day event, and give a general kind of "Introduction to Ethereum" presentation, but specially through the focus of where we are AS OF HOMESTEAD, what that means, etc.

Do we have re-usable slide-decks that anybody is aware of, or has used in the past? No doubt such a presentation would make sense for everybody, and could be used hundreds of times. So I'd like to think about building that collaboratively here. It should just be a subset of what we're building anyway, right?

sounds fun!
I don't have any slides, but I have an archive of materials from past research
what's the best way of collaborating on this?

If there’s anything there that can be improved or that can be linked to the homestead guide, there’s a button on the bottom saying improve this page which takes you directly to github markdown page

Booyah! Ethereum.org is looking great.
@Souptacular RE Dallas meetup and slides. Great!

So maybe we start gathering slides (or links to slides) within the Homestead guide? On a slightly broader note, is there a PLAN for what happens with this content after Homestead? I would like to eliminate the C++ "book", and split content between the C++ Wiki and the Homestead Guide (and maybe we even eliminate the C++ Wiki entirely, because having the history and PR process for our docs would be GOOD anyway).

So ... while it is called the "Homestead Guide", is the intention to incrementally maintain it forever? I hope so. That would make sense. So it morphs into an "Ethereum Community Documentation" of sorts?

We will always have the "shiny official" ethereum.org website, but I think it makes sense for the Homestead guide not to be "build and abandon" like the previous ones have been. It's a hell of an effort (as we have seen) to rebuild this kind of stuff, and would be better for it just to be maintained.
Like a Wiki. But better!
hughlang
@hughlang

i assumed it would require ongoing maintenance. Probably not so hard when it is finished.

@bobsummerwill

So maybe we don't even call it the "Homestead Guide"?
It's just the "Ethereum Guide" or something else kind of neutral. The actual front-page content will of course talk about Homestead at the moment, but that content will change over time too.
Maybe we find a nice URL too, even? So it goes up to EthereumGuide.org or whatever.
Or EthereumCommunity.org.
Or whatever people fancy.
Any thoughts, @hughlang, @zelig, @Souptacular?

i think those are good ideas after the homestead launch and we can spend more time planning it out
we can set up a redirect when that happens
Bob Summerwill
@bobsummerwill
Mar 03 2016 18:52
Right. When we have the content in a good shape, we can certainly splurge it somewhere else easily enough. More than anything, I just wanted to clarify that we WERE intending to incrementally keep this thing going forever before I spend my next few days migrating all the C++ content and killing the old gitbook (and maybe C++ Wiki!)

@frozeman and others in the community had been skeptical of switching all of the docs to this guide and taking them off of the wiki because of previous attempts to do so and how they have failed. I think the homestead guide will continue to be improved upon and miantained after the "release" and if it is used by enough people we can start transferring or talking to teams about transferring pieces of the wiki at that time.

We'd love this guide to be an all encompassing guide, but we are just being cauteous and doing it on a team basis and incrementally

after homestead wave passes we may use a more generic one
but these are official stages the network is in , so its ok
i imagine the metropolis guide will be written in yet another framework anyway lol
Hudson Jameson
@Souptacular
Mar 03 2016 18:56
@zelig I hope not, but I agree it will depend on how the community likes using the Sphinx/RTD frameowrk
I say I hope not because it will be a lot of effort and RTD is built to be updated and easy to keep up with changes

Great - we appear to have consensus! I shall proceed on that understanding.
Yes, @zelig, and that framework probably hasn't even been created yet!
