Hey Guys, a little new at crypto, but been doing trades and being successful, however my Ethereum wallet is no longer receiving ethers that I sent to it recently. I assume it is due to the hard fork. Can anyone help me update my Ethereum wallet so I can solve this issue. Thanks
Feel free to contact me directly at my personal email, JohnIngram48664866@gmail.com, thanks.

What version of the wallet are you running? Also is it fully synced? At what block is it currently?

It looks like you did not update before the HF. http://fork.ethstats.net/
You will have to remove %appdata%\Ethereum\chaindata and resync using 0.8.1.
Unfortunately there is no way around this.
Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 16:19
Correct, I did not update before the HF, I see the instructions on how to delete the chaindata folder, okay, but when you "resync" using 0.8.1, what do you mean exactly, what steps do I take
Luca Zeug
@luclu
Jul 23 2016 16:23
Also remove the file %appdata%\Mist\daoFork - just to be sure that you didn’t select to oppose the HF.
0.8.1 will work out of the box. Just choose to support the HF on the popup to be on its chain.

I see the mist folder, but I don't see DaoFork
Luca, would you be interested in walking me through this over the phone, I would be happy to pay you, send you ethers, etc. I am just scared I am going to screw something up worse

Jul 23 2016 16:45
No worries, you will be alright. Just always keep an backup of your wallet files located at menu -> accounts -> backup -> accounts (%appdata%\Ethereum\keystore).
Then nothing can go wrong.
Are you able to open the %appdata%\Mist folder?
If there was no file daoFork you can skip this step and just delete %appdata%\Ethereum\chaindata.
Restart the Ethereum-Wallet afterwards - you should be prompted with a decision if you want to follow the HF. Select yes.

I am in the Appdata / Mist folder, and there is no Daofolder, there is Cache, databases, GPU cache, cookies, network, nodes, Quota manager(s), that is
that's it, oops'
Luca Zeug
@luclu
Jul 23 2016 16:50
good.
Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 16:50
Okay, so I will close the Mist folder then, now...
Okay, so I opened Ethereum, Accounts, backup , accounts, chaindata
so ...to delete the chaindata folder, I "check" the box next to it...right click on the folder and hit delete ? correct?
Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 16:56
Is that correct Luca ?

I "check" the box next to it...right click on the folder and hit delete ? correct?

I’m not sure how this is handled by your operating system. Is it windows?

Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 17:01
Yes windows 64 bit
Luca Zeug
@luclu
Jul 23 2016 17:01

Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 17:02

Jul 23 2016 17:03
Its saying that the action can not be completed because the folder is open in another program, ?
Luca Zeug
@luclu
Jul 23 2016 17:03
Ah, just close Ethereum-Wallet.
Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 17:04

Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 17:05
okay, .....hold on......
downloading blocks.......lol
okay, its downloading a chain structure, never seen that before....guess that is a good thing
Luca Zeug
@luclu
Jul 23 2016 17:07
So you should already see your accounts and will need to download the whole chain. This will take 1h (SSD) or up to ~14h on HDD.
Once fully synced you should see your funds.
Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 17:07
looks like it has a lot of blocks to download as well....over a million

Luca Zeug
@luclu
Jul 23 2016 17:10
@Dockeltics please go to menu -> about. What version is it displaying?
Seth
@sethfork
Jul 23 2016 17:10

@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 17:11
Hold on Seth, Luca really helping me out here....Luca, I have to Launch Application to get to that ?
Luca Zeug
@luclu
Jul 23 2016 17:14
@sethfork Mist will be for DApps what a webbrowser is for Webpages. Ethereum-Wallet is acutually the code of Mist with only one Dapp (the meteor-wallet-dapp).
Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 17:14
says version 0.7.6, license GPL -3.0
Luca Zeug
@luclu
Jul 23 2016 17:14
@Dockeltics ok, you cannot use that version anymore with the HF. Please close Ethereum-Wallet.
Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 17:15

No
Seth
@sethfork
Jul 23 2016 17:19
Looks like there are some intrsuctions for moving to the new chain here: https://github.com/ethereum/mist/releases
Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 17:19
I have my accounts backed up from before
I downloaded and extracted it so far
I guess I did it right, I reopened it, its downloading chain structure, going to take a while....
Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 17:27
Seth, that github stuff doesn't make any sense....that's the problem, they always assume you already know what you are doing....that's really holding people back from crypto, you have the "know everything" people and the "know nothing" people, and nothing in between to help noobs
Seth
@sethfork
Jul 23 2016 17:42
@Dockeltics I definitely agree that most all products in crypto at the moment are designed with several self-defeating assumptions, one of those being that end users will have a 'basic' grasp of some seriously esoteric shit
Dockeltics
@Dockeltics
Jul 23 2016 18:10
Let me agree, and tell you something, if someone with a decent knowledge of crypto were to open a simple crypto consulting website, to help people get off the ground and get going with crypto, that person would be rich in no time. I just might if I could get to that knowledge level, but I am an older guy, (55 ) and not really equipped to get that comfortable. But for someone younger, definitely something waiting to happen.
