Hi, I am looking for some pointers to install Ethereum client on windows and invoking a simple web3j based call to fetch account balance. What is the simplest way to do it?

Hi

But still it doesn't show it on my account
WHY?

@hamostan blockchain explorer web sites might show you what happened on the network.
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 14:15
I can't see anything. I mean it just show I have received 0.01 eth and how many confirmitions does it have:

phalexo

It shows you, @hamostan, to which account specifically you sent your ether. You can confirm if that account is the same over which you have control, i.e. you know the passphrase or the private key. If you know neither that 0.01 ether is lost forever.
The other thing to consider is this. Have you synced up with the blockchain? If not, don't expect to see anything until you do.

hi all
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 17:12
Thanks @phalexo you're right I haven't synced it
Thanks for help
Does it synnc automatically?
Cause some times it stops downloading
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 17:46
Either Mist or Ethereumwallet should run geth (assuming you are using one of them) If you are using a different wallet, then run geth --fast --cache 1024 yourself, and wait for it to sync up.
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 17:47
I'm usint ethereumwallet
The official wallet in ethereum.org
It will automatically sync or no? Cause some times it stops downloading blocks
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 17:48
Well, sometimes there are issues with invoking geth from the wallet. I'd use geth directly.
If you have communications issues, maybe you are not linking up with peers.
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 17:50
When I tun it says connected to 5 peers and then it show me how many block have been downloaded
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 17:51
It probably shows you have many blocks you are still missing. There is also the total number of blocks.
Exit the wallet and run geth directly
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 17:52
Yes
How can I tun it directly?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 17:52
Find the executable. Which OS?
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 17:54
Windows
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 17:55
Where did Windows set up the Ethereum folder? I am on Ubuntu, could be different.
Search that folder for geth.exe or eth.exe (not sure which one on Windows)
Oh, on Windows you also have to open ports 30303, 8545
Windows now has a screwy firewall.
Windows 10?
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 17:59
8.1
64-bit
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 17:59
So, make sure the ports are open.

@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 18:02
I can't see the files you said
eth.exe or geth.exe
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 18:23
When you run ethereumwallet, you should be able to see all the processes that run. I am not sure if the Windows distro bundles geth.exe with Mist/Ethereumwallet. Google around.

Aug 09 2017 18:35
I can't still find it
First of all I have downloaded v0.9.0
Ethereum-Wallet-installer-0-9-0.exe
Then it downloads blocks that are more than 4/000/000
After few minutes it stops downloading
And I should close it and open it again until it begin downloading
How can I make this problem fixed?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 18:38
You have not installed Mist? Install Mist.
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 18:39
You mean Mist-installer-0-9-0.exe?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 18:39
Yes
With any luck it would install the geth client.
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 18:42
I installed mist
So now I allowed geth.exe to be run in my laptop
and now its downloading blocks
now I should wait until its completed?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 18:45
yes
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 18:46
So after that I should open mist.exe for my wallet or the other one?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 18:46
until you see it down one block at a time, it never completes.
download I meant
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 18:47
some times more than 1 some times wait and then begain more than one
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 18:48
It will be consistently one a time at the end
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 18:48
for example in 1 second 30 blocks and then wait to download chain structure and then its starts
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 18:48
Is that geth out put?
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 18:49
It seems
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 18:50
run get h in the command window, geth.exe --fast --cache 1024, or run geth with --help to see the right parameters for fast sync mode.

Hi @mayseldsufiyan all of the info is in that page to create your own crypto. But if you want to learn more about your crypto you can search in google. but the main part is to creat the wallet! I hate this part. I'm exactly like you. I have problems creating ethereum walllet.
@phalexo I opened cmd and typed start geth.exe

Aug 09 2017 22:22
You can't find geth.exe like that unless your PATH contains the location where it is. You have to do an actual disk search, Windows search function.
And then you can add that geth.exe folder to your PATH variable so that you could just enter at the command prompt.
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 22:27
I tried to search for the file on my computer but still no result. I'm trying another way to find it. It's still in process I will tell you the result. Thanks for geeting your time to me to solve my problem ;)

megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 22:37
I found it
I opened my cmd
and typed cd the path to geth.exe
So then I should write geth removedb?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 22:38
No.
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 22:39
I have the path now can you tell me from the first in cmd?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 22:39
That would remove whatever blocks you may have there.
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 22:39
oh
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 22:39

megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 22:40
What is the function?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 22:40
check the params it expects, probably geth.exe --help
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 22:41
So you mean cd path/to/geth.exe --help?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 22:42
What is the full path to geth.exe C:\Documents Settings ???????
either cd all the way to where geth.exe is, or use the full path.

megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 22:52

the main error is:
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 22:53
cd C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Ethereum\binaries\Geth\unpacked
dir
megacrypto
@megacrypto

OK. So this is the exact thing I should write?:
cd C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Ethereum\binaries\Geth\unpacked
enter and then write geth.exe -- help
OK
I have typed cd C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Ethereum\binaries\Geth\unpacked
then enter an then geth.exe --help
now it has send a lots of text
For example it has send me a list of geth commands
there is and import command. it has write that you can use it to import a blockchain file
Should I use this?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 23:00
No, import is for importing wallets/accounts.
see if you have a flag for --dbpath or something similar
datapath, also look for "syncmode" "fast" "cache"
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 23:01
No it said incorrect usage
I have found the database folder by my self I guess
there are two files in it
Databases.db-journal
and Database.db
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 23:03
It gave you a list of commands, right? Look for "syncmode" "fast" "cache"
Don't touch the database files.
Remember which folder contains database files.
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 23:04

phalexo
@phalexo

megacrypto
@megacrypto

But there are two path that giced me
in the geth folder there is a chaindata
as you said
sorry its in another folder.
c:\ user\admin\appdata\roaming\ethereum\geth\chaindata
in this folder there are a lots of file the format is ldb
So what is next step?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 23:11
geth.exe --datadir c:\user\admin\appdata\roaming\ethereum --fast --cache 1024 --port 30303
If the Windows firewall is blocking port 30303 you will still have a problem, but try it.

?
phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 23:15
What? --cache 1024
Two minus signs.
megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 23:15

phalexo
@phalexo
Aug 09 2017 23:16

megacrypto
@megacrypto
Aug 09 2017 23:16
