@akeif on the test network at least, I’m using the Develop->Start Mining feature to start mining.
on the main network I’m not giving any suggestions because I haven’t done it properly myself (I had tried with AlethZero and AlethOne but was told they were deprecated). But check the minercommunitysupport channel and also check the documentation.

I created two test accounts and I have a main network account. When I checked the keystore folder to back it up, I see that there is still only one file.
So apparently the testnet has its own subfolder and there are two separate keys within its keystore for my two test accounts. Just in case anybody went through a 1 second panic like me. :-)

Is there anywhere an explanatory video of one block as it exists in reality and what all it contains? i.e. the actual size of a block, all the different storage spaces within it, what all is in that storage space.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I could find info on mining from a dapp? I'm using truffle with Windows 10 uwp and I'm creating a uwp dapp where a user mines tokens based on specific criteria

I'm seriously confused on all the different software and programs and setup for ethereum. I want to have a wallet, connect to the network, and start GPU mining. alethzero likes to crash a lot. I'm downloading Mist and Ethereum Wallet and I just ran them, they both are downloading blocks, are they sharing work or are they both downloading their own chains?
Leonid
@citleon
@replic8tor Mist and Ethereum Wallet are sharing work
Bob Summerwill
@bobsummerwill

Hey @replic8tor,

First up - forget AlethZero. It is no longer supported, so you will not get any support or help there. It's a C++ application, and syncs into its own data directory which is not the same as ...

Ethereum Wallet, which is a "one app" bundling of the Mist browser and the Wallet dapp. Or the Mist installer is just the shell, mainly just of interest to dapp developers who want to try out their dapp within it. Running Mist or the Ethereum Wallet share a data directory.

Does AMDGPU or FGLRX the recommended driver here.

I am new to this and choosing which front end for a website. What builder is best if wanting to integrate with Ethereum?
Badr bellaj
@bellaj
hi, could we install ethstats (https://github.com/cubedro/eth-net-intelligence-api) to monitor a private local chaine
Portia Burton
@pkafei
@Farmerjohn2022 You can use regular HTML/CSS to build a front end fo Ethereum. If interested in building an app you can take a look at the js framework meteor https://github.com/ethereum/wiki/wiki/Dapp-using-Meteor

Is there a step by step to installing the ethereum wallet for newbs?
Portia Burton
@pkafei
@jasonmziegler If familiar with the command line, you can follow the instructions on how to install an ethereum wallet here https://github.com/ethereum/mist

@Farmerjohn2022
@pkafei thank you, I normally have really bad internet and no contact with people. At present I am the opposite but unfortunately a bit confused by people in real life. Funny being at a course and getting a real understanding of what people are like. So HTML or CSS is what a Wordpress site is?
Portia Burton
@pkafei
@Farmerjohn2022 A Wordpress site is HTML, CSS and PHP. You just need HTML/CSS and Solidity https://solidity.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
Jason Ziegler
@jasonmziegler
@pkafei Thank you, Portia. I did install Mist. I tried to add my coins from the pre-sale and they were there for a sec, then clicked around a bit and they were gone (or at least I couldn't see them) the wallet seemed pretty buggy. I was hoping the wallet @ https://www.ethereum.org/ was different than mist. Is it not?

I know I am about to say something really random but it is actually completely serious and I think we should do it. Build a huge memory chip in the ground on my farm and put a massive ariel in it and store the Blockchain in it. Build this massive organic dome in the centre of it and have a massive buzzing computer system in the middle. Controlling the farms and a lot more. On the rest of the farm no wifi or anything that's not connected to robots controlling the farm and of course the life that the farm is dependent on.
Portia Burton
@pkafei

@jasonmziegler The wallet can be found in mist, but there is also a stand-alone wallet app. https://github.com/ethereum/meteor-dapp-wallet

If you found any bugs you can report them in issues https://github.com/ethereum/meteor-dapp-wallet/issues

Hi I am new here. Planning to use ethJ
Does anyone know where should I start with if I want to store an external contract on ethereum block chain?
I'd ideally like to build a webservice that lets me store and retrieve contracts from external (via rest) sources.
Arun Rao
@arunmrao
@amlanc you dont store/retrieve contracts from external sources - you might want to start on the basic tutorials - such as the links here:

Hey, I was following the tutorial to install the command line on windows. It says to download the binaries and from the command line execute - open geth.exe . However when I run the command it throws an error - "'open' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file." I looked inside system32 to see if exists and there is no such file like open.exe there. Tutorial link - https://ethereum.org/cli

Hi guys I am trying to learn ethereum using https://dappsforbeginners.wordpress.com. I am finding it hard to find all the tools and documentation to follow it
for example aleth zero is now deprecated but the tutorial is using it
can anyone please point to the latest tutorial or a tutorial which is easy to follow
Kush Goyal
@KushGoyal
@estermer I think solidity is like the backend language for dapps. It will contain all the contract logic.
Bob Summerwill
@bobsummerwill
Looks like that is pretty ancient, @KushGoyal.
Maybe start with http://ethdocs.org instead.
Kush Goyal
@KushGoyal
@bobsummerwill Hi, will ethdocs.org covers things from a beginner standpoint?
I mean it has a lot of information but should I start reading it from the beginning to the end?
