Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 21:04
yeah
looks like it
just never saw that before
wonder if the browser will throw an error if the hash doesn’t match
Blake Niemyjski

@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:46
What are you up to (doing)?
Modesto San Juan
@modesto
Nov 18 2015 22:47
jejeje, sorry but I've need to go to google to look for "yall" :S
I was reading my email and thinking about go to sllep. It has been a hard day
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:49
It’s a southern term (in the us) to mean you all
yeah
watch connect all day or work hard?
:D
I did a bit of both, could use some chocolate after dealing with js debugging

trying to implement Squirrel in a console app...
(clickonce replacement)
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:50
why not use six?
wix*
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 22:51
does it no-ceremony inplace-update?
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:52
not sure what no-ceremony means but yes we use it for one of our apps to upgrade existing installs. Granted I’ve never heard of squirrel but wix is microsoft’s open source xml installer

I've spend nearly all the day with Devops and I find Powershell more tired than C# :D
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:52
hehe
Modesto San Juan
@modesto
Nov 18 2015 22:54
Yesterday was also a hard day. The DawaWarehouse team ask me for a code review and we put the code upside down.
I hope to have easy days the rest of the week :D
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 22:55
putting code upside down is what i like best. i'm the very first to delete bunches of code and replace it with maybe 3 lines that do the same.
my colleagues don't like it. i think, sometimes, they create like an emotional bond to the code they write
that sucks.
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:56
can’t do that
(create an emotional bond)
Modesto San Juan
@modesto
Nov 18 2015 22:57
yeah. I allways say the same: "delete code is a pleasure!"
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 22:57
:-D
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:57
You guys should put my code upsidedown :D
Modesto San Juan
@modesto
Nov 18 2015 22:57
If you have less code, yuu have less code to maintain :D
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:57
that is very true
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 22:57
i always wtf out at code reviews when there is commented out stuff all over the place
I ask them, well, what is this supposed to do? And they are like, I don't know, I don't think we need this any more.
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:58
We try to never have code comments
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 22:58
i don't mean code comments. i mean code that is commented where it should have been deleted
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:58
if you need a comment 98% of the time it could be written better
yeah I know
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 22:59
you never know if it needs to be there or not
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:59
but we take that a step father
farther*
Modesto San Juan
@modesto
Nov 18 2015 22:59
yeah! I hate comments, commented code and "regions"
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 22:59
I left some things commented in on the js code only due to there was an open issue for something and I know I need to go back. Just easier to let it stand out at you in plain site so it gets fixed.
could argue that I should just delete it, but then I’d have to go into the history and grab it again
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 23:00
yes, but i have a long way to go for this. management is still convinced that it's a legal issue when there is no comments
you can't easily argument against legal
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 23:00
that’s what source control is for
source control is your comment as to why something was changed
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 23:00
now i talk about xml comments :-)
Modesto San Juan
@modesto
Nov 18 2015 23:00
I hate "regions" so much that I use regular expresions to delete regions with visual studio replace ;)
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 23:01
:)
I used to region all the things back about 8 years ago
and now I think ooh god what the heck was I doing
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 23:01
i still use them! in CSLA classes for example, to put DataPortal methods in one place
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 23:02
I started mentoring a friend who is a newbie C# dev, regions everywhere
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 23:02
but resharper does all the regioning. that's ok i think
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 23:02
yeah, I could see for the data portal methods. But with Generator I put them in partial classes
and got rid of the regions :D
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 23:02
partial classes don't play nicely with "Refactor this > Move into matching files" :-(
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 23:03
I’ve never had a problem with that
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 23:03
wanted to write a plugin that fixes this, but got no time.
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 23:03
are you sure resharper has an issue with that
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 23:03
i think so. should try again :-)
Modesto San Juan
@modesto
Nov 18 2015 23:06
Do you want regions and codecomments ? take it !
I hope you never need to debug this code :S
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 23:07
it's still very short methods.
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 23:07
/// <summary>
/// Updates a folder.
/// </summary>
/// <param name="folder">The folder.</param>
internal void UpdateFolder(Folder folder)
{
haha
Frank Ebersoll
@frankebersoll
Nov 18 2015 23:07
have seen shorter classes that were much worse
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 23:07
so helpful
open source and extensions support!
Blake Niemyjski
@niemyjski
Nov 18 2015 23:09
yeah
and vnext rc1 released
I guess they are also working on better debugging for dnx
