You need to edit the file and then use exercism submit <filename>, where the filename can be a relative or absolute path and it has to be within the location it was downloaded to, to make the CLI able to recognize track and exercise from the location on disk.
Jeniffer Alves
@Jhenial
Jeez kkk, now how do I edit by bash?
Norbert Melzer
@NobbZ
You do not use bash to edit, you use whatever editor you like, as long as it is capable of writing plain text files.
Jeniffer Alves
@Jhenial
I already did in the web editor

Norbert Melzer
@NobbZ
That has never been submitted, the downloaded files will be stub data IIRC. You need to manually locally edit the downloaded file once such that it has the same content as your web edit. Then you can use the CLI to submit.
Jeniffer Alves
@Jhenial
aah I understand, I'll try here, thanks.

i have download exercism cli but unable to configure it
Jeniffer Alves
@Jhenial
I also couldn't configure via local, I didn't find the instruction either. But I found the source code and managed to get the mentorship.
Victor Goff
@kotp
@shivamj19 You stated that you were unable to configure it. It would help us if you were to show what you tried, and show what the error is.

I seem to be stuck on accessing the Exercism files after running this command: brew install bats-core the WSL for Ubuntu on Windows 10 prompts me to use sudo apt install as my prefix and so I tried that before brew install bats-core. I also tried sudo apt install bats-core . No luck there either. I believe homebrew, bats and the exercism.exe installers all ran fine, but now I just can't seem to be able to run the exercises. I have done two days of Googling and so I thought I would reach out for help. I am hoping it's something extremely simple that I just overlooked.
Victor Goff
@kotp
It looks like You are using the Windows Linux Subsytem, based on Ubuntu. I just did a package search it looks like it is named bats instead. Try doing sudo apt install bats instead of using Homebrew.
Norbert Melzer
@NobbZ
@atoledo1138 What exactly do you mean by "no luck either"? WWhat is the error you get when you run which command?
@Jhenial what do you mean by "couldn't configure via local"? From the conversation you had with Victor and me in the last days, it looked as if you succesfully configured the CLI and even have been able to download your exercise.

Hi! Could you tell how long does it usually take to respond to a mentoring request? My request in the Golang track has been open for 5 days without a response and another one for 3 days. While Avg. wait time displayed is ~3 hours
Norbert Melzer
@NobbZ
Sadly that totally depends on the exercise. The more advanced in the track the exercise is, the longer it takes to get a reply. As 1. many mentors do only mentors stuff they solved themselves already; 2. those are usually more complex to analyze and to actually answer questions about, therefore they inherently take longer to mentor, which again makes many mentors do the quick ones first.
Gennady
@gennadiy-p
@NobbZ Both exercises are Easy level, so it seems strange... I understand nobody guarantee terms, but I was mostly confused with Avg. wait time displayed, but now I understand that it's not quite accurate. Thanks!

@morrisjohn
I'm finding it difficult to install exercism locally
I'm using a Debian based Distro
Matthias
@siebenschlaefer
@morrisjohn Thanks for the feedback. Or do you need help with the installation? In that case: What have you done, what error did you get?

Hello all, I am a donator to Exercism and have had issues with using reoccurring payments, as the charges were inconsistent and skipped two months from set up and just now seemingly randomly charged me. This is no issue, but I wanted to see if this was a known issue or if others have experienced this. For now I will switch to manual donations to be sure it is going through!
Victor Goff
@kotp
I will forward this information on. It is something that could be opened as an issue on https://github.com/exercism/exercism/issues and would be triaged and routed where it should go. (The presumption is that you have a github account, of course. If you do not, let me know and I can facilitate this for you.)
Jeremy Walker
@iHiD
Hey @Rmiller5466. Thanks for letting us know! Yes, our Stripe integration was broken and so payments weren't coming through. We've fixed and re-enabled everything this afternoon. I'm going to send an email out later about it, but I appreciate you flagging it!
Jeremy Walker
@iHiD
@Rmiller5466 You should have an email landing in your inbox any second :)
Ryan
@Rmiller5466
@iHiD I have not received any referenced emails yet. I did cancel the monthly option thismorning, so could that have gotten me off an email list?
Jeremy Walker
@iHiD
Ryan - yes, if you've stopped donating since this morning you won't have received the email.
If you email me (jeremy@exercism.org) I'll forward it on to you :)

I am not able to download exercise download --exercise hello-world --track java I need help
Victor Goff
@kotp
What was the exact command that you used?
And what happened when you tried?
Charles-CarM
@Charles-CarM
Greetings Exercism community. I have been working through the hello world exercise in JavaScript and my npm test passed,
however when I tried to enter exercism submit hello-world.js on the CLI it gave me the error message "The system cannot find the file specified"
Any suggestions on how I can resolve the issue?
Thanks in advance for your reply
Norbert Melzer
@NobbZ
@Charles-CarM are you sure you are in the correct folder?
ynfle
@ynfle
@rajeshG4 the command you have written here should be exercism, not exercise (note the change in the last letter)
ynfle
@ynfle
@Charles-CarM What is the command used and is the js file in that location relative to the current directory
Charles-CarM
@Charles-CarM
@NobbZ Yes I am sure of being in the correct folder @ynfle the file path is Desktop\Exercism\javascript\hello-world and the command being used is submit exercism submit hello-world.js. Am I missing a step or is there anything else I can do?
Norbert Melzer
@NobbZ
@Charles-CarM as you are obviously on a windows, can you please use the full file path when submitting? Also, is your exercism workspace also printing Desktop\Exercism (as an absolute path including the drive letter)?
Timothé Maurice
@Timtonix
Hello, I try to install Exercism without snap on my Manjaro Linux using zsh
someone can help me to add the zsh command ?
ynfle
@ynfle
@Timtonix What do you mean by the zsh command?
but it's doesn't work
I want to execute the command "exercism" in zsh
Norbert Melzer
@NobbZ
Whereever you put the exercism binary, make that folder part of your PATH, usually through adding or edditing a line in your ~/.zshrc
Timothé Maurice
@Timtonix
ok ti's work, thx
