result of ls -al | grep .config
@matrixbot Creating a subfolder in the ~/.config directory by hand using the command "mkdir testfolder" seems to work
But now I get the error message "Error: open /home/rustam/.config/exercism/user.json: permission denied
"
amrust
@rusant10_twitter
As far as I understand I own the folder ~/.config/exercism/
"drwxrwxr-x 2 rustam rustam 4096 Apr 1 23:18 exercism"
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ How do you run exercism?
amrust
@rusant10_twitter
@matrixbot Sorry, not sure what you mean? I'm just trying to set up exercism, haven't really run it in any meaningful way.
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ The command that produces the error. And my name is NobbZ. matrixbot is the name of the bridge I use.
NobbZ Please omit the actual token when copy/pasting, replace it with xxx or something
amrust
@rusant10_twitter
Sorry, NobbZ, and thank you! The command was
exercism configure --token=[omitted]
exercism configure --token=
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ That looks fine... Nothing obviously wrong. The ~/.config/exercism folder what permissions does it have, and are there any files in it? What permissions are there?
amrust
@rusant10_twitter
No files in it, I just created it by hand. Permissions are:
drwxrwxr-x 2 rustam rustam 4096 Apr 1 23:18 exercism
amrust
@rusant10_twitter
Which would seem to imply that I have permission to create files. I own the ~/.config folder as well. Here's the result of ls -al drwxrwxr-x 31 rustam rustam 4096 Apr 1 23:18 .config
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ That's really weird... You don't use sudo or anything? How did you install exercism?
amrust
@rusant10_twitter
I installed snap first using sudo snap install exercism
I probably should have rebooted first before proceeding to appease the linux gods after that, but didn't. I then installed exercism using sudo snap install exercism
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ I'm out of ideas...
amrust
@rusant10_twitter
Thanks anyway!
Learning to code and learning algorithms and data structures are comparatively easy, but god help me if I get an error message when using linux :(
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ Well, usually such an errors fix is just a chmod/chown away. Also usually I'd offer a tmate session when it's not as easy as it should be, though I'm on mobile only.
amrust
@rusant10_twitter
NobbZ, thank you! I might check back tomorrow if I can't get it to work.
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ No
NobbZ Running stuff as root, that is supposed to be run as regular user is never correct
NobbZ Especially when you don't know why stuff isn't working, trying as root again might even harm you more

Hello when I try to configure my CLI by running;
exercism configure --token=<my token>
I get;
Error: The base API URL 'https://api.exercism.io/v1' cannot be reached.

Get https://api.exercism.io/v1/ping: dial tcp: lookup api.exercism.io: no such host

matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ fishon-dev (Gitter) this is usually an issue with your network settings.
fishon-dev
@fishon-dev
you mean the connection is being blocked from my end?
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ No. It can't be established.

NobbZ Why this is the case can have many reasons.

Are you using a firewall of some kind? Behind a proxy? VPN? Corporate network?

fishon-dev
@fishon-dev
Well ok it can't be established because my network is not allowing it. Sort of understandable as you script or CLI or whatever is trying to connect outside. Is there a browser based alternative for downloading and submitting exercises?
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ No. Not yet, but it is planned to be published until end of 2020.
NobbZ With a lot more changes than only that.
Fabianthorsen
@Fabianthorsen
Hello, im unable to download anything using the CLI
When i copy the download text in the exercises, it prompts that it has been downloaded while there are no files in the directories
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ That sounds weird. Can you please ls -l $(exercism download …) and show full command as well as output?
NobbZ (Please replace the ellipsis with whatever the download from the page tells you to use)
Fabianthorsen
@Fabianthorsen
It prompts me multiple files in directory, yet the directory is not showing
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ Can you please C&P exact command used and its output?
Fabianthorsen
@Fabianthorsen
Yes

matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ Okay, files are downloaded and do exist on your harddisk
Fabianthorsen
@Fabianthorsen
Ok, how do i access them?
matrixbot
@matrixbot
NobbZ what is the output of exercism workspace?
Fabianthorsen
@Fabianthorsen
C:\Users\thors\Exercism
Oh ok,
Is there a way to move that directory to a custom one?
