the current “API” exposes JSON (and legacy XML) representations for atlases, pages, and snapshots.
and it’s possible to update the status of an atlas or snapshot (fp-tasks does this as it finishes pages)

you can poke around and look for .json.builder files: https://github.com/fieldpapers/fp-web/blob/master/app/views/snapshots/show.json.jbuilder (this may actually be the only one—atlases are handled differently: https://github.com/fieldpapers/fp-web/blob/master/app/views/atlases/show.geojson.erb)

regarding the diagram, I assume the tiles created from the individual field paper is also stored on S3?

those are ephemeral, actually. the GeoTIFF is tiled on the fly.
they’re cached on the tiler (and should probably be cached elsewhere)
