Is there an easy way to get the number of git commits in the fiji github org? (we want the number for a grant proposal)
Any ideas?

@tpietzsch Sure, it's straightforward. Just clone all repositories in the org using mr, as specified in https://github.com/fiji/dotfiles configuration.
Then run: mr run git rev-list HEAD --count in the directories created by mr. Assuming you only care about master branches?
And then finally sum the resulting numbers.

Now, that will result in counting some duplicates quite a few times, unfortunately, thanks to the big split of all plugins to their own repositories.
Anyway, the count with duplicates is something like 31692.
OK, I'm going to take a different tack to avoid all the dups.

I switched to counting unique author+datestamp+summary lines. Seems intuitively likely to avoid counting duplicates (resulting from filter-branch) multiple times. Gist updated.
Grand total: 25098.

I feel like that must still be high somehow.
Oh, it's counting a lot of "bullshit" commits like updating POMs, etc., which maintainers have done over the past 2 years.

BTW @ctrueden
Writing on the grant and getting into "big picture mode" I realized just HOW MUCH we owe to you and @hinerm and @schindelin for pushing Fiji towards this amazing build/CI/deployment infrastructure and github, and modularization, etc, etc
Big big big thank you

Thanks! I'm glad people find it valuable.
Thanks to you also for being a responsible maintainer, and generally awesome genius guy. Without people like you, it would be impossible.
