    I'm having issues setting the box color of a text input widget. Is it possible to change the color away from white?
    Devin Trowbridge
    @BrokeBox
    I think i figured it out. Appears as though in 1.1.10 the Fl_Input widget background color is not set-able

    Why are you using such an ancient FLTK version? You should really upgrade to 1.3.5 (stable) and/or test 1.4.x (Git only).

    Regardless, overloading the Fl_Widget::draw() has worked out for me

    Hello!
    Quick question: is there an easy way of creating multiple cursors on an FLTK text area?
    Sublime-style.
    Albrecht Schlosser
    @Albrecht-S
    Quick answer: no. I don't know what "Sublime-style" means, but the only thing I can think of to be relevant is that FLTK has a different "insert cursor" than the normal "pointer" (usually an arrow). You can change cursors in your program, but there's always only one active cursor.

    Hi all,
    I was searching a while on the web but could not find an answer to a problem I currently have. What I like to do is to iterate over all widgets in a window and identify them by their names (or if possible to access them directly by their names). Does anybody know if there is a solution for that (is there a way to get the name of a widget?, could not find a member function or variable who stores that).
    Albrecht Schlosser
    @Albrecht-S
    A widget doesn't have a "name", there's only its label which can be accessed by the label() method. You can iterate over all children of a group starting at the top level window which is also an Fl_Group (i.e. inherits Fl_Group). This would need to be done recursively.

    Is tabbing order determined by Widget creation order or by t he widget's position on the screen?
    craig-iex
    @craig-iex
    testing 123 - hi!
    Albrecht Schlosser
    @Albrecht-S
    Tab order (movement from widget to widget) is determined by the order of widgets within their parent group.

    hi, I am new to fltk. I am on Freebsd and i3 window manager. I set for the main window a range(300,300,0,0). Then I add a Fl_Menu_Bar and I set it to window->w(). The window when shown gets resized. How can I get the current width of the window? If I call window->w() it returns the width I originally passed when creating the main window, in my case 300.
    Albrecht Schlosser
    @Albrecht-S
    window->w() does always return the current width. It's generally OK to ask your question here, but you should consider asking in our fltk.general (Google) group.

    Can anyone advise on how to load custom fonts into FLTK based application? .otf formats to be precise.
    irced
    @irced
    can someone give me a quick rundown on how to show a window within a window. I aim to show a modal window that prompts for input. I have tried to instantiate an Fl_Double_Window as a child of an Fl_Double_Window but it does not show (I've tried calling show and end before end and show on the parent).
    irced
    @irced
    nm, apparently i must invoke show on the parent window before invoking it on the subwindow. at least, that is one requirement i identified and i am getting it to show now.
    irced
    @irced
    oh and also fl_double_window as child of fl_double_window is opaque. gotta use fl_window
    irced
    @irced
    but then again maybe i needed to use ->add

    Hi, I wanted to know if FLTK is still a suitable library for modern user interfaces?

    Please ask your questions in fltk.general (link above), but I'll try to give short answers as far as possible here:
    @piexpie I'm not aware of a way to load external font files with FLTK methods. There can, however, be platform specific ways to do it, I don't know. OTOH you can use any font installed on your system by name.
    Albrecht Schlosser
    @Albrecht-S
    @piexpie Yes, FLTK is a suitable cross platform GUI library which is "Fast and Light" and concentrates on GUI functions. If it's something you'd want to may depend on what you mean with "modern user interfaces" though. We're always open for questions and discussions in fltk.general. Note that I won't reply here to further questions regarding this.
    @irced if there are still questions, please ask in fltk.general (link above).
