was about to ask what to do if I want to do this for an instance method. As it only works with static or top-level functions
anybody know how to go about this?
guess im just gonna rewrite the workhorse function as a toplevel function

Anyone have any experience saving marker coords to firestore? I'm trying to save them as a geopoint rather then a string so I can get them to populate on query later
is it okay to save them as a string?

Hey. Anyone worked on screen package on flutter?
CharlesCleveJr
@CharlesCleveJr
@arpit3018 Do you mean splash screen package?
Arpit Agrawal
@arpit3018
No.
I mean the package through which we can handle screen on the mobile device, like control the brightness or lock it out

I'm using this package to create a Launcher Icons https://pub.dartlang.org/packages/flutter_launcher_icons
hower despite that it did actually create a folder with Icons, I'cant see a change in my App Icon
any ideas?
do I have to run flutter install again? dunno I did that but it stays the old standard icon
TonySpegel
@TonySpegel
seems like you have to run build and then install
Michael Freeman

i hope it's ok to paste here my Stackoverflow question.. it's a bit urgent and I didn't get any response. trying to observe metric changes for widgets that don't have WidgetsBindingObserver mixin. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/55938020/is-it-possible-to-observe-metrics-changes-on-components-without-widgetsbindingob

Would love to have some help with this, if it's even possible to do (guess no?)

Hi, I have a child widget (returns a PageView.builder) and I want to update the parent’s attribute _pageIndex. Whenever I try that using setState (the parent is stateful), I get an error. How can I achieve this?

@TonySpegel

How do I use switch case or additional commands in a map function?

Widget buildTypes(types) {
    List<IconButton> typeIconButtons = [];

    typeIconButtons = types.map<IconButton>(
      (type) => {
        type = type.toString().toLowerCase();

        switch (type) {
          case 'tkp':
            IconButton(
              icon: Icon(Icons.ac_unit),
              tooltip: 'TKP',
              onPressed: () {},
            )
            break;
          default:
        }
      }
    )
    .toList();

    return Wrap(
      children: typeIconButtons,
    );
  }

based on a lists values i'd like to create different IconButtons

says: it's expected fo find '}'

@TonySpegel When stuck like this it's useful to think - what does the map function need? It needs a function that takes a String and returns an IconButton. So, extract exactly such a function and then call it.
  Widget buildTypes(types) {
    return Wrap(
      children: types.map<IconButton>((t) => fromType(t)).toList(),
    );
  }

  IconButton fromType(String type) {
    switch (type) {
      case 'tkp':
        return IconButton(
          icon: Icon(Icons.ac_unit),
          tooltip: 'TKP',
          onPressed: () {},
        );
      default:
        return IconButton(
          icon: Icon(Icons.device_unknown),
          tooltip: 'UNK',
          onPressed: () {},
        );
    }
  }

@TonySpegel
oh that is interesting, some one from the Dart channel mentioned I could just remove the fat arrow and return my Widget
but yours is nice to know too
so this is like a function inside a function?
richardheap
@richardheap
no, i just extracted out a separate method to make it easier to read
TonySpegel
@TonySpegel
oh misread the brackets
Randal L. Schwartz
@RandalSchwartz
It’s better to subwidget than just factor out.
TonySpegel
@TonySpegel
what does this mean and why
Randal L. Schwartz
@RandalSchwartz
it means you should create a new subclass of StatelessWidget and drop your code in there.
lemme see if I can find the URL that describes why
there… read that.
