@PragatiVerma18
And that has to be filled through a form?
Raj Vaibhav Dubey
@rajvaibhavdubey
You can view the previous badgeyay site, it's working AFAIK.
Pragati Verma
@PragatiVerma18
It doesn't show anything beyond login/signup page.
Raj Vaibhav Dubey
@rajvaibhavdubey
Strange, It's working for me. Wait will post a screenshot of the Create badge page
Pragati Verma
@PragatiVerma18
Okay, I can see it now. I guess there have been recent changes to the codebase. It wasn't working until yesterday.
Does this 'Name your Badges' field mean - the name of organization??
Pragati Verma
@PragatiVerma18
For beginning, can I have a simple form where you have to enter details, and afterwards I will add features of uploading details from CSV??
Raj Vaibhav Dubey
@rajvaibhavdubey
Yes, would be good to begin with :+1: .
Areeb Jamal
@iamareebjamal
Why do we need to login to create badges?
Are the project requirements for badgeyay still the same? Is Badgeyay going to be a project for GSoC?
Pragati Verma
@PragatiVerma18
@iamareebjamal we would need login signup feature for user authentication etc in case we plan to go for API and also to ensure that the verified user is creating, editing the badge.
Areeb Jamal
@iamareebjamal
But it can be generated using just the browser. Why is it necessary? I get it that it might be needed for API but even that is not needed. Why can't something like https://squoosh.app can be built. It compresses images, does more intensive work than generating badges, but requires no account or server

@iamareebjamal

Why do we need to login to create badges?

One idea was that people can store their badge data in their account, but we could also have an anonymous version. Would be great to be able to enable/disable that version in the admin area.

Furthermore in future we could connect printing services through an API.
Areeb Jamal
@iamareebjamal
Yes, makes sense
Pragati Verma
@PragatiVerma18
Hi, can someone please review my PR and in case of any changes, guide me or else please accept it.
Raj Vaibhav Dubey
@rajvaibhavdubey
@PragatiVerma18 I cloned your fork and tried to run it, following are the errors I'm getting : Manager isn't available; 'auth.User' has been swapped for 'users.User'
Pragati Verma
@PragatiVerma18
Okay, I will see into it and fix that. Thanks
Pragati Verma
@PragatiVerma18
I need a clarification, do we need the custom user model i.e. Abstract User Model or else may I modify it to standard user model provided by Django?
Pragati Verma
@PragatiVerma18
@rajvaibhavdubey @iamareebjamal @mariobehling Please review my recent PR #2184 and please tell me if any changes are needed.
Also, the reset password emails are for now dumped into a text file, so, please guide me about any third party email service that I may link it with so that we can send emails easily.

Are we planning to start with the React Part of the project?
Areeb Jamal
@iamareebjamal
No we decided that SPAs are an anti-pattern and we should go with fast and secure by default backend rendering like Django

@mariobehling please also clarify if badgeyay is going to be updated to React and Django stack or not? Because there's no progress on PRs in Django setup since months.
@iamareebjamal please let us know if anything can be contributed to the Django part and please check my PR #2187 if you get time, if it's not appropriate, tell me the changes, I will do it.

@mariobehling
@PragatiVerma18 @dev9414 Yes, thanks for following up here. I discussed this with a few people in the team and due to our focus on virtual events during the current crisis we decided to take the badgeyay project out of codeheat for now. Right now people need all kinds of ways to stay connected and we want to support them by implementing such features in the open event project. As people cannot meet right now print out badges have a lower priority (for the moment). Therefore for the moment we are not able to assign the mentor resources to this project as we have to focus on open event, which is using flask and Python. So, it is similar in the tech stack and I hope you would be interested to join. Thank you!

Hi. I have opened an issue: fossasia/badgeyay#2192
Can I work on it? I am a beginner contributing to FOSSASIA for the first time.
Mario Behling
@mariobehling
This project needs to be changed to Django. So changing small things like are not relevant at the moment. Please try out the open event frontend project if you have web dev knowledge

Dear @/all today we received the very sad news that our dear friend @iamareebjamal has passed away. We are very disturbed by Areebs sudden death. In the last few years Areeb became like the beating heart of FOSSASIA. He kept everything running and developed all kinds of amazing services and tools. We would not be where we are today without him.

He was an amazing person and brilliant developer. I worked and communicated with Areeb nearly every day and I also had the chance to meet him in person in India. The last time we got together in Delhi when we organized the OpenTechSummit mini event in Delhi.

He loved to share his knowledge with anyone and expected even nothing in return. He was a modest and humble person. He deserved to live a long life and make his dreams come true. Areeb had big plans and we had discussed to get him to Singapore to run the FOSSASIA development from there. An amazing future was in front of him.

We will be sharing more about Areeb on our channels. Please post your thoughts and experiences with Areeb on the web and provide support to each other in these difficulties times. Be safe and healthy!

You can find out a bit more about Areeb on a video we put together here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbFCBp-LTXc
