@danfowler one thing i think worth doing is booting a google spreadsheet with JTS types and then mappings and comments to particular tools or languages. Could you boot that spreadsheet and list the current types

@danfowler did you see my comment here https://github.com/frictionlessdata/ideas/issues/231#issuecomment-219650796? Could you clarify on what we are doing re ex-geo/topo

@danfowler @roll do we have a test data package which tests all the field types? If not that is something to add to issue #231 or the test data package suite issue

There was also an issue with using %Y for a date field format
But in most languages a year does not constitute a date

@jeroenooms - i get you. It is a tough one in that is frequently used and i guess one could cast to the first day of the year e.g. 1990 -> 1990-01-01

Yeah that's one solution but it's a bit arbitrary really
You're making up data
Using int for years might be better

@jeroenooms i agree - the option is to force that as int or string ...
@jeroenooms right - though the issue there is graphing etc. e.g. you want to interpret that field as time for time series graphing

I opened a PR for readr (theR parser) to support this
Anyway got to go now
If you know of any R users that want to read data packages , feel free to send them to the repo. Some feedback would be useful.

@jeroenooms so one answer for you right is best data package for testing all types is https://github.com/frictionlessdata/testsuite-py/tree/master/datasets/synthetic (though still not quite complete)
@jeroenooms really useful comments - thanks for the feedback so far

@jeroenooms many types here - https://github.com/frictionlessdata/jsontableschema-sql-py/tree/master/data (articles.json/csv) - but it's just a jsontableschema not a datapackage
but if you need some basis for test datapackage it could be usefull
