    Hi All!

    We got our final review back from the RDO department, working document is now here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ImNimXtmk1TWv_T8Jx7X2bophO-WnMqN-yOFVBxoGI8/edit

    I will work today on incorporating the comments from RDO and might assign you some things in the Google doc if that's ok?

    The deadline is 23rd, but I would like to aim at submitting on the 22nd, to avoid last minute rush and overload of the submission system (they mentioned they were expecting a large number of submissions given that this is the last time this call will happen after 7 years)

    They sent these general comments as well:
    Well done so far, really!
    Keep up to good work and this will be a killer application!

    Please find attached the next version with our comments.
    Note, the project has to be finished by 31 August 2023 the latest. Either start at 01-09-2020 for a 36 monthsproject, or 01-10-2020 for a 35 monthsproject.

    Over the phone today we highlighted these important points:
    - Where possible include concrete examples of the Msc-/PhD-programmes involved (e.g. in de section about the tasks/responsibilities of the consortium partners, and the impact and sustainability sections)

    In the IOs 14:
    - Avoid too much repetition. Explain the tasks and applied methodology (how you develop the training materials) in detail in IO1. In IO 24 refer to IO1 and point out any differences
    - Where possible, estimate the workload for the participants (how long will the training be). (and/or mention the judgement of the workload for specific types of students as one of the tasks, to be carried out together with the education directors of the postgraduate programmes involved)
    - Make clear what new/additional materials will be developed (in follow-up of the statement earlier that you will use existing materials and develop additional ones)
    - Workload/size of the training modules + what has to be developed => will help to estimate the necessary amount of work days in the budget.
    - Assessments? Will the participants be able (or obliged) to take a (n online?) test/assessment? Will they receive a certificate?
    thanks for your hard work everybody, we are almost there!

    Awesome work there - and really nice feedback! :)
    Saskia Hiltemann
    @shiltemann
    yes, we had a call with her as well and she said it was already in better shape than some past ones from EMC that got funded, so fingers crossed!
    Fotis E. Psomopoulos
    @fpsom
    woot woot! :)

    @hexylena
    new gantt chart complete with tasks + numbers. wheee.

    @bebatut
    Hi
    What should I do if I manage to get Ada to sleep not on me during the day (i.e. I can be on my computer)?
    Something where you need me?
    Bérénice Batut
    @bebatut
    I can also try on my phone. But the application renders strangely on the phone, making it difficult to read
    Helena
    @hexylena
    Hi! Welcome back :)
    We feel OK about most of it, due to the amazing work of the EMC RDO who have reviewed it thrice now. But if you DO have time, it would be amazing if you could read the following sections and make sure the scope of work sounds OK, and it's all clear for you what is required from freiburg. In the TtT is currently missing some blabla about mentroship that I need to write this morning
    • "Intellectual Output: Train the Trainer" (led by FR, supported by INAB-CERTH).
    • "Intellectual Output: Large-scale data analysis, and introduction to visualization and data modelling", (led by EMC, supported by FR)
    • "Intellectual Output: Data analysis and modelling for evidence and hypothesis generation and knowledge discovery module" (led by Yvan, supported by FR)
    Saskia Hiltemann
    @shiltemann
    one of the remaining questions from RDO is whether we would have assessments/exams. We have the question boxes with answers, do we want to do anything more? focus on writing some more extensive exercises and/or example exam questions instructors could use? What are your thoughts on this?
    Helena
    @hexylena
    And: is an examination necessary for ECTS (for your uni)?
    Fotis E. Psomopoulos
    @fpsom
    I'd say that the examination question is mostly tied to any ECTS requirements - so from CERTH's perspective we are fine with or without exams. But I'd really leave it up to all other partners in this.
    Helena
    @hexylena
    EMC is OK without
    @bebatut?
    I've made Risk 0 the pandemic, since Saskia and I think that's what this question is about / why it was added.
    but otherwise, thank you @fpsom , you're amazing! We owe you some :beers:
    Fotis E. Psomopoulos
    @fpsom

    That is a very good point - nice catch!

    Also, don't even think about it. If anything else, we owe you two at least a couple of rounds of beer (or any other alcoholic beverage of your preference.. ;) )

    Helena
    @hexylena
    speaking of risk management, we tried jitsi for the galaxy committers meeting last night, it was meh overall. some nice features, but, it degrades quite poorly in poor conditions. Zoom drops video before dropping audio packets, jitsi compressed the audio and tried to play catchup, making the missed portion unintelligible
    might be better on a privately hosted server, freiburg has their own which I'm sure we can request use of (or just a VM for a private one in their cloud)
    Fotis E. Psomopoulos
    @fpsom
    I had my first jitsi experience this morning. It went rather well, but we were also ~5-6 people online, so it may had an effect...
    Helena
    @hexylena
    we had some firefox users in the mix, despite being notified it would worsen performance, which was unhelpful.
    so, there are some things we can control more strictly in a gallantries setting (private server, which browsers) that might make it still a possible option
    Bérénice Batut
    @bebatut
    I think we need an exam here for ECTS. but we have this idea (for a long time) of collecting questions or extra datasets as exercises at the end of tutorials. we could mention that
    for Firefox and Jitsi, I heard that they are working on it at Mozilla to make it works
    Helena
    @hexylena
    Ok, exam for ECTS is the key point for us, they aren't really interested in precise implementation details in this case, and I don't want to mention that they'll be publicly on the tutorial lest that opens us up to questions on that avenue
    Bérénice Batut
    @bebatut
    fair point for the public questions
    @hexylena I checked the "Intellectual Output: Train the Trainer”. Looks good. I made some suggestions. I hope they are not too much out of the scope. Let me know if they are not clear (I feel that my brain is not fully functional)
    I will try to have a look to the other IO in the afternoon
    Helena
    @hexylena
    ok, thanks!
    Bérénice Batut
    @bebatut
    I am also not sure how to answer the questions from Annet
    Helena
    @hexylena
    apparently IO5 did not receive as much attention as 1-4
    I'm rewriting a bit of it now, maybe if you have time in the afternoon you can re-review?
    Bérénice Batut
    @bebatut
    Yes I will do that
    Thanks for the work
    Saskia Hiltemann
    @shiltemann
    so, if we say we will create a set of example examination questions and exercises for each module that can be used by instructors for assessment of students, would that be ok with everybody? we can think about the exact implementation and details later.
    Fotis E. Psomopoulos
    @fpsom
    Agreed!
    Helena
    @hexylena
    Ok, done with updates Bérénice, it's good to review whenever you have time.
    Saskia Hiltemann
    @shiltemann
    @fpsom you mentioned running Erasmus+ grants in the past (and currently), were they also a Strategic Partnership specifically or?
    Helena
    @hexylena
    @fpsom I only see these E+ grants, unfortunately neither are KA2 strategic partnerships
    Fotis E. Psomopoulos
    @fpsom
    I just looked-it up in the INAB DB (obviously it's not mine).
    This is the name: Master in Food Identity (ERASMUS Mondus)
    Helena
    @hexylena
    Ok, Mundus doesn't count, I think
