We discussed this a bit during our tuesday meeting at JHU and we think the "New User Welcome" (https://usegalaxy.org/welcome/new) is likely a good spot to expand on much of this that is common to many galaxies. We are also going to make it 'stickier', so it isn't immediately gone after registration but once a user explicitly dismisses it.
Hmm, I'm reading that more like asking for a sort of check list for what we recommend doing after starting an instance for the first time ... maybe we could have a config value that is something like "demo_mode: true", and in that case we say "1. Set up administrator account, 2. set up some tools, 3 check out GTN, 4. turn off demo mode"
Hi all! We are participating in Outreachy again, this time we have submitted 3 projects. Although the internships will start on May 30, the contribution period begins this Friday (March 25 to April 22), meaning that you will start seeing new contributors all over the place. So let's all welcome them! 🤩
Hello everyone! My name is Anita and i am an Outreachy Contributor. It's my first experience with open source contribution and i look forward to learning and contributing to this amazing project.

Hi everyone! I'm glad to join your Outreachy project. :) I'm here to contribute in development of wellbeing culture for open source projects. And hopefully my digital marketing background will help you to build a better web presence.
@room: We will be organizing a Galaxy planning meeting at Montpellier May 19-20. 2022. This is a bit spontaneous but it appears one of the few open weeks prior to GCC. The goals of this meeting will be to re-establish links between the US and EU (and FR in particular) team in the technical roadmap as well in major efforts such as VGP and COVID. We do not have resources to support travel for the entire team (we also have GCC this year) so we are asking each WG to delegate one or two people to attend this. Since this will be a strategic meeting the preference will be given to members of the committers group. Please, let me know who is going by the end of this week.
More details on Montpellier meeting: The meeting will take place May 16 - 20. It will be best for people to arrive on Saturday (May 14) to get acclimatized and to have an opportunity for a random walk across Montpellier (or maybe a dip in the Mediterranean). We will have several conference rooms reserved for May 16 - 20. Since these dates are coming quickly we need to finalize the list of people, so please let @mvdbeek know that you are coming. Just as a note: Anton will have a COVID related one-day conference on Tuesday (May 17) and there will be a training session on Wednesday (May 18) with Helena & Saskia. If people want to stay longer in Europe, everyone is welcome to visit Freiburg afterwards.
