    Hi Systems group!

We have a first contact with CERN :)

The European people had on and off a few contacts with CERN people in various meetings and grants
and we had the idea to contact them and establish a better connection.

    Our main motivation was:

    • we share the similar goals
    • we both develop and maintain very complex systems for many thousands researchers
    • the Galaxy community is already using a lot of CERN technologies
    • we are both interested in distributes compute

So we created a list with all people we know, contacted them and presented them the Galaxy project on a high level.

They seemed to be interested and surprised by the scope of and diversity of our users. They also presented these slides to us:

    https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/183uEGhCNdbAFoh_rdnSDwWXhdZhAC_e8

Now we have got this invitation:

As proposed in our December meeting, I followed up on a potential
presentation about big data in life sciences, Elixir and Galaxy
in the regular WLCG Grid Deployment Board (GDB) series:

    https://indico.cern.ch/category/6890/

The first opportunity would be Feb 9: could that work for you?
We would envisage a 30-minute slot with a talk of ~20 minutes
and ~10 minutes for questions: how does that sound?

You can check a few recent GDB meetings to see what kinds of topics
are presented there in which ways:

    Nov - https://indico.cern.ch/event/876795/
    Dec - https://indico.cern.ch/event/876796/
    Jan - https://indico.cern.ch/event/1096026/ (under construction)

What do you all think about this. Could you put this on your next agenda?
What would you interest be in such a collaboration? Do you want to join? Should we offer them to have a cross
Galaxy-CERN Matrix channel ... please add all crazy ideas :)

    Thanks for reading!

    Hi all,

we have been accepted to publish an updated version of the Galaxy community paper 🎉

If you’ve made substantial contributions to the Galaxy community ecosystem (core framework, tools, GTN, public server maintenance, user support, etc.) over the past two years, please add your details as an author into this form:

    https://bit.ly/nar-author-2022

    Thank you all!

For anyone who didn't catch it, project leadership are asking for a WG progress report. I don't think we really have much to report unfortunately, I figure the most interesting stuff we can discuss is TPV and reference data plans, and an overview of the stuff we discussed at the last meeting.

maybe not, i think they might've just contacted leads to disseminate to WGs, which i failed to do.

and I'm sure they heard about the mess that is our data and decided they really liked physics? 🤣

that is one advantage they have - their data is much cleaner, better harmonized, and produced by people who know what they are doing (most of the time)

    I'm so jealous
not dealing with 6 different flavours of the same data because bioinformaticians hate using each other's file formats? Damn, sounds ace.

Hi all - by executive order, because I'm not going to get this organized any other way, I'm going to declare bi-weekly meetings starting Wednesday next week, cycling between 22:00 UTC (17 EST, 23 CET, 9 Melbs) and 13:00 UTC (8 EST, 14 CET, midnight Melbs). I tried to find a third time slot that is "ok for 2, painful for 1," but I don't see one.
Of course I'm not entirely serious about it being an executive order. If you hate this and/or it doesn't work at all for you (or people want to propose different times/days) please discuss.

My thought was that people should feel free to miss meetings that don't work for them, although that's not as easy with only 2 time slots.
These were the only ones I could find where people in all 3 timezones might be awake. Another option would be 7 UTC (2 EST, 8 CET, 18 Melbourne) but I doubt any of us EST people would ever attend that one.

Would having regional (aka Working Subgroups) meetings work better, with monthly/quarterly meetings with everyone?
BTW Sorry for missing the WG-All meeting, I didn't have the correct Google Calendar and I'm not in that group (didn't know about it...). I saw the discussion here, but did not realize when it was or I would have prepared an inventory of the anisble playbook, helm charts, et al we are using with k8s

Hi Nuwan Goonasekera , I am part of an ELIXIR working group dedicated to explore ways to access and processing sensitive data in Galaxy. During the last meeting, we discussed the possibility to leverage the new Galaxy Vault feature. Do you think to be able to participate in the next meeting to help us to figure out better how to use that solution? The online meeting is going to be Monday 4th April 10:00 CET, but we can arrange a different time slot as your convenience (not sure in which time zone you are at the moment). Thanks in advance for your help.

Specifically, things that you have had to work around in the way you have done your deployment that probably need to be addressed upstream in Galaxy.
