Open question - probably been asked before but using Joomla I notice a couple of PageSpeed notes on Best Practice.
Passive Scrollers - Consider marking your touch and wheel event listeners as passive to improve your page's scroll performance.
Outdated JQuery - medium security risk
What is the best method of adding the passive scroller listener into Joomla Gantry 5, and using more up to dat JQuery libraries.
TBH, I'm interested to see the result so doing so just through XAMPP. Many Joomla extensions use older jQuery libraries but would like to learn through experience.

Can anyone direct me to where the 'head' is formed and included in Gantry 5 Joomla? I need to edit the preset files loaded into the css and js sections. Can't remember where the files are located in the folder tree!

:point_up: February 15, 2020 9:30 AM Hello @fragim87_twitter I took a look at the link you provided but I do not see what you described "image so large and text next to the image". I see large images on that page but with the text above and below the images.

Hi, I'm totally new to web development, and I'm interested in creating a website where users can query a database and receive information regarding their query. If I'm understanding correctly, gantry only provides a visual framework correct? How can I integrate a database into my gantry application?
dmleeman
@dmleeman
@neelmitt Gantry 5 (and 4) are there to help construct page layouts with fine control over the behaviour of modules and particles that allow page interaction. The gantry framework integrates with a CMS (Joomla, Worpdress or Grav) in order to provide this function and create a consistent behaviour across the front end of your site. It is the CMS itself that provide access to the database for the type of user interaction you require.
In short, your question is nothing to do with Gantry but is related directly to the CMS on which it sits.
From your question I imagine that you are looking at PHP and MySQL tutorials with a view to making extensions for your CMS.
First of all you will need some basic PHP tutorials that then introduce MySQL. The next step is to transpose your code into the CMS (which varies depending on your choice).
You are embarking on a journey here and the learning curve can be steep. Hence the reason that developers are so sought after and paid well.
Set up either XAMPP or some similar and find some tutorials on PHP and MySQL (and javascript). I use Udemy but there will be others of course.
Depending on how new web development is to you, you will need to know at the very least some HTML and CSS before embarking on PHP and MySQL.

Hi, I've been using Grav for a couple of years and recently discovered Gantry, which is awesome. I've created a child theme as per the documentation and have made custom layout presets for it.
What I'd like is for the sections in my style presets to correspond with the now modified sections in my layout presets. That way I (and other less capable users) could change the styling without completely relying on changing the CSS. It isn't as simple as merely modifying 'presets.yaml' as I've discovered - the sections listed under 'Section Styles' don't change to reflect those in my 'presets.yaml'.
Does anyone have any tips on this? Does it require modifying the 'Styles' page in the Gantry admin?
Thanks!
moominmaster
@moominmaster
Ok I've answered my own question right after asking it! Funny how that seems to happen :P All I needed to do was make some blueprints for my new sections in the 'blueprints/styles' folder of my child theme and they appear in the 'Styles' admin page.

@EJBJane
Hi there, new here. First time building a theme with Gantry but 10 years or more experience Joomla. Everything is under control except the one detail about the mobile menu. How does this work exactly? If I click in the off-canvas position (where I have placed the partical) mobile Menu and check the setting of this mobile menu particle is states I have three options Mobile-menu : Particle Block and Inheritance. The Particles section is blue and just says "This Particle is the container target where, on Mobile, the Menu will be injected. Please note that this Particle must be unique in the Layout and positioned in the Offcanvas section. You will also need a Menu present in the Layout.". I HAVE a menu present in the layout in the navigation section (support-menu), I have placed the mobile menu particle in the offcanvas-section. If I go to Particle Setting on the right I have two blocks 1st is Menu (I have checked the box) target mobile for my 'support menu'. Underneath there is a Mobile menu box but here also it is blue and has no options.
So what do I seem to be doing wrong, how do I get my mobile menu in the offcanvas to show up?
Michael Koontz
@N8Solutions
Hello @EJBJane,
By default, as long as you have a menu added to your site, and it shows up when viewed on a desktop/laptop, then it should automatically show up when you view the site on a mobile device.
If you are looking for the menu to show up in the offcanvas position while being viewed on a desktop/laptop then you will need to modify the Breakpoints.
If this is what you are after, have a look at the conversation here :point_up: February 12, 2020 8:18 PM and you can check out the pull request that was made to update the documentation regarding this as well here https://github.com/gantry/docs/pull/203/files .

Hi Micheal, It was a human error. I forgot that I had changed the z-index of the navigation, and so I was just hiding it. Sorry for that! however thanks for your help!

Hi all. Have one question regarding the rockettheme akuatik preset. It looks like the assignment button is missing. I want to tie a theme to a page i made but cant se any way to do it without that button missing

@N8Solutions
@PSILONCRAFT what is the "akuatik preset"? I'm not familiar with that.

@PSILONCRAFT OK, thanks, that explains it. I haven't used that theme but I also use Joomla. In any case, this chat is specifically for questions concerning the Gantry 5 core and the free Hydrogen & Helium themes. Any questions concerning paid themes need to be directed to the theme developers. In this case, it means posting in the RocketTheme Forum.

I am having trouble setting the mobile menu. I have set particle to target a specific menu and also set the same traget in the menu particle in the layout option. But still the first menu is moving into the burger. I have done all the changes on my base outline which is inherited on all pages. How can I change the menu ro even combine 2 menus would be even better.
David Wickstead
@Wicko-Design
Actually managed to figure it out. Because I was using the menu particle for both menus it was taking the default menu as the first loaded. On the layout I had to overrid the settings for the traget menu to remove from the first menu so the second menu would become the target.

I have found this error in my dev console. https://www.mywebsite.dev/nl/templates/g5_hydrogen/custom/custom/scss/custom.css
It doesn't make any sense to me because I have specified the custom file as custom.scss not css and it seems it is repeating the custom folder path. Where can I change/correct this in Gantry 5?
The full error is Refused to apply style from 'https://www.mywebsite.dev/nl/templates/g5_hydrogen/custom/custom/scss/custom.css' because its MIME type ('text/html') is not a supported stylesheet MIME type, and strict MIME checking is enabled.
Michael Koontz
@N8Solutions
Hello @EJBJane from that message it would appear that the file location is incorrect.
do you have the custom.scss file located in /templates/g5_hydrogen/custom/scss/custom.scss?
Liz
@EJBJane
I will re-check now and yes I do have it in the right place
Michael Koontz
@N8Solutions
@EJBJane wait, you have /nl/templates
Liz
@EJBJane
Yes, I do because I have joomla! installed in a directory other than my root directory
Michael Koontz
@N8Solutions
OK
@EJBJane You said you found this error in my dev console. Can you see anything else in the dev console that might tell you what is referencing it?
Liz
@EJBJane
Oh lots of things ;-) You can see here, this is my development site : https://www.dolcevia.dev/nl/index.php
In the console, I also put on the error reporting just to see more
Of course you can ignore the 404 on images because i just havent uploaded all of them yet.

@N8Solutions
it's strange, the page isn't fully loading for me. I am unable to scroll.
ahh
nevermind
it was your cookie consent and I didn't catch it right away since it wasn't in english.

yeah;-) I'm sorry its in Dutch too

@N8Solutions
not a problem, I live in Greece ;)
I'm really not sure about the error message you are seeing.
My best suggestion would be to open a ticket for this so the devs can take a closer look.
@EJBJane You can open a ticket here:

Hello, is there a possibility to have more space between menu-titles? We don't have many menu-items and it would be more beautiful when the titles wouldn't stand so close to eachother... Many thanks in advance!

Gantry latest on Grav 1.7-rc6 and I can't save the Gantry menu configuration. The error is "Grav\Framework\Flex\Pages\Traits\PageLegacyTrait::move(): Not Implemented". Gantry menus were working in 1.6 for sure and I believe in the early 1.7 rc versions.
Anyone else run into this?
