So, if you can learn how to use Chrome Inspector this will help a lot. But I'll get you started.
Joshua Clinard
@echopulse_twitter
I usually use padding to put margins around text.
dmleeman
@dmleeman

but If I did want the image to line up with the content, would it be better to change image width in the image itself.

Definitely not, this is not really the way. The CSS box model is used to align content, not the content's default sizing

You may think I'm being obtuse but, really, I'm not. The CSS must dictate the layout
Otherwise you are in for a world of pain
Anyhow, what colours do you wan the menu burger?
if you let me know the rgb valu on hover and default the I'll send you the css
Joshua Clinard
@echopulse_twitter
okay. Now I opened the inspector again, and i can see it changing when I highlight elements now. I don't know why it wasn't before. I do see some padding around the image now
dmleeman
@dmleeman
Then I'll have to go :)
ah right, ok so that is a good start and will help you enormously
so that padding is there by default, part of Hydrogen for all contained items
Joshua Clinard
@echopulse_twitter
ok, thanks
bye, I have to have lunch too
dmleeman
@dmleeman
hope it helped :) I was where you are with CSS a couple of years ago and have been the painful route. Now I'm competent in modern css through Chrome inspector, Flex and Grid
ok, bye
Joshua Clinard
@echopulse_twitter
wow, My site really looks different in edge. Spans full width of browser. I use edge 95% of the time too.
dmleeman
@dmleeman
hmm, ok, looks the same to me
is it what you wanted?

btw

.g-offcanvas-toggle {
font-size: 1.5rem;
color: #fff;
}

This is the CSS for the default burger or menu toggle, so if you add the values you want then add it to the custom.scss that should do it

Gotta go now @echopulse_twitter but post here if you need any more guidance
Joshua Clinard
@echopulse_twitter
thanks, that's perfect

Now, I am working on changing the height of the navbar. I have set height to 50px in .g-navigation. according to this video.
And it's not working
That was 4 years ago, did something change

@goglplx
Hello group - I am looking for a developer to help maintain a site who lost it's support person.
dmleeman
@dmleeman

@echopulse_twitter

It's #g-navigation, not .g-navigation. It is an id not a class

The video is still relevant and, in the correct selector, the height declaration will work

Follow the video carefully and the steps in using Inspector. This way you can try declarations live in browser and then copy them into your custom.scss

The classes and ids in the prebuilt themes Hydrogen and Helium don't change. If they did, any update would break the layouts for existing sites.

@goglplx joomla or wordpress?
Joshua Clinard
@echopulse_twitter
thanks, dmleeman, but still didn't work. I'll keep digging.

In my web inspector is says that bar is g-container, not #g,navigation
Arthur Rose
@kreate1994
is gantry compatible with woocommerce?
dmleeman
@dmleeman
@echopulse_twitter if you change .g-container that is a class that will affect multiple sections of your site. If you ask for help please listen and follow it precisely.
dmleeman
@dmleeman
Gantry 5 is built using containers blocks and grids. It's not going to help you defining classes that are fundamental to the build. For this you need to look at the built in tag attributes. If you want your navigation to be 50px high then #g-navigation is the id, or you could style the specific class:
#g-navigation .g-main-nav {
height: 50px;
overflow:hidden;
}
Then either re-size your font or alter the line-height

I had dev mode on. Now it fixed the button, but not the backgorund.

Joshua Clinard
@echopulse_twitter
go to http://gantry.org/downloads and download helium or hydrogen under Joomla, and install it the same way you did for Gantry.
Joshua Clinard
@echopulse_twitter
So, update on last post: Used spacers to line up header graphic line up with content. But it only lines up on certain resolutions. Any way to make it a static layout.

Hey all. Has anyone managed to over-ride the [theme]/gantry/theme.yaml file for Wordpress?

Hi Guys. Been having some trouble getting certain plugins and functions to work on the site. We have a plugin that creates a product feed for Google. This is working but the url to activate the link is not. The dev of the plugin has been taking a look and generated this video where they switch the theme and the url works fine. Any idea how I can make sure the url works on the Gntray theme? This is the video https://www.loom.com/share/f42243f9fdb04250a342ae6c85b4b640

I have a Grav Gantry5 particle that loads an image with gantry-media:// but in Gantry production mode with asset timestamps enabled per http://docs.gantry.org/gantry5/faq/asset-timestamps, that particle renders images without a timestamp. Am I missing something?
CariRich
@CariRich
hi, noob here. I'm currently in the documentation at http://docs.gantry.org/gantry5/particles/page-content. I'm still not understanding how exactly to use this particle to get an article in a category on Joomla to display on the assigned page. If someone could help, I'd be grateful. TIA.
dmleeman
@dmleeman

@CariRich Hi, and welcome. Yes the Joomla article and Particle is not immediately intuitive, but this video may help:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm-boXacl_4

It quickly makes sense

CariRich
@CariRich
@dmleeman thanks for the response. Just listened to the first few minutes of the video and realised I'd listened to it last night and again this morning to figure out doing the outlines for each page on the site. I'll look at it again and see what I missed re getting the articles to show up because I did follow what he said re creating the categories and articles and menus and menu items and THEN making sure that everything was set in the Base Outline and Default, however I'm still not meeting with success in the Kraken template. Unfortunately, his was the only video I found that came close as well. Thanks again.
dmleeman
@dmleeman
@CariRich The basics should really be just case of assigning Articles to the relevant Joomla menu (using the Joomla Article menu link). Then assigning the Gantry layout to the same menu item. Make sure that the layout you choose does contain the Page Content particle.
This way, on the front end Joomla opens that page, with the assigned article and layout. Bingo! Your assigned article appears in the Page Content position.
